Question
I was wondering if any of you have any ideas that I could use to start a tradition in my family tree. The only tradition in my family tree is that we pass down certain shirts. Any ideas?

Have you thought of a family fabric?

I think what she means by "family fabric" is that everyone has a letter shirt made from the exact same fabric pattern. EagleChick, correct me if I'm wrong.
What about having a certain gift that everyone in that family has, (the bigs can buy it for the littles). Something unique to the family...maybe it doesn't say AST on it but it has green and gold on it or something like that.
While I was undergrad, one person wrote a nice poem/letter to her little and glued it to the back of her wooden anchor (same as a paddle given at initiation). That little then wrote the same thing on the back of her little's anchor, and it keeps getting passed down the line of littles. Really neat idea.....

My family doesn't have a family tradition, but one of them just started something new. My pledge sister got a lavalier last year, and she has started the tradition of passing that lavalier on to her daughter, who will pass it down, and so on. Both of my daughters dropped, last semester and this semester, but I am going to start that next fall, when I have a daughter again.

a neat thing we do is have family colors...im not sure if any other ast's do this bc its a tradition we took fgorm our old local sorority. Its awsoem tho...each family has two colors and one has 3(mine!!). And we have this huge tapistry white cloth and there is a tree painted on it and all the branchs have colored leafs that represent the diff. family lines. Its really an awosme thing and a big hit at rush. Also, we write our family trees on the walls of our basement. Its been goign on for years and our basement is completly covered its crazzy for new girl trying to find a spot to fit on their tree and their pledge class spot as well. does anyone have any otehr cool traditions??

We had a family pattern. Sun/moon/stars. On initiation our littles get a wall hanging: big piece of fabric with their name and ASt on it, and a door hanging, usually somthing like a round hoop, like for stitching, with fabric and their name on it. Each family has a paddle design. Some other traditions are lavaliers at certain times, ie: next birthday after initiation, or next formal chapter meeting after initiation. Also, I heard of a great idea but we never did it, was the night b/f initiation have a sleepover w/ your entire family and jsut hang out and get really close. What sorority means to you etc. Our family also had certain items that got passed at certain times. I also did a cross stitch of the crest, and it got passed at each initiation to the newest member of the fam.
