SEC schools vs. southern non SEC schools

Are they any different with the rush process (i.e. giving advantages to freshmen and shut out the uppperclassmen (sophomores, juniors and seniors))? I go to a school in the south that is not a SEC school.

I think Emory has a pretty non-stereotypical "Southern" rush, but maybe that's because so many of their students hail from the Northeast.

I think SEC schools are different when it comes to recrutiment. I've never heard anything bad about Memphis recruitment or the chapters there. I am sure you will do fine and just be yourself.

I think the biggest thing about the SEC school stereotype is the fact that sorority traditions are the biggest in the south and the largest schools in the south belong to the South-Eastern Conference (SEC). There are so many girls going through recruitment at these schools that it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. I am from a non-SEC school (Sunbelt Conference-Go Cajuns!) and our traditions are similar but on a much smaller scale. We can actually get to know our girls during Rush.

I went to a Southern school that does not belong to the SEC (we are in the Southern Conference). If you go by the numbers the greek system is somewhat similar in size to a medium size SEC school. I think that based on what I experienced and what I have been told about SEC rush (Mom and Sister) the 2 recruitment styles and traditions were virtually the same.

florida state is a member of the atlantic coast conference, but has a traditional southern-style recruitment, and i would daresay that the majority of the acc schools have a similar recruitment. many of the chapters at fsu are over 75 years old, so have lots of tradition.

Rush is very similar at most of these schools, but I confess I don't know what if any sororities are at Georgia Tech. FSU Zeta is right about FSU rush, except that there are some chapters that are well over 100 years old! In fact, the "newest chapter" of a national GLO is 44 years old at FSU.
Greek Life is BIG in the South!

Georgia Tech started admitting women in 1952. In 1954 the first NPC chapter (Alpha Xi Delta) was installed. Currently, there are 6 NPC chapters, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha at Tech.
