What would your chapter think of this

Hey all--
A quick question, as both an advisor or sorority woman--
My god sister is going through recruitment at Virginia Tech and there is no chapter of AOII there but lots of other WONDERFUL houses. I know she has letters for some of them but would it be totally weird of me, as an AOII, to write a short note to all the houses there, just saying she is coming through and is a nice person? I know it wouldn't be an official rec, as its not from a member of that group, but I would just like them know about her and I don't have friends in all the houses there. I know if my chapter got that kind of letter, I would make sure it was read and not think it weird at all but I just wanted to check before I did this.
We all know how cut throat and hard recruitment can be sometimes and I am a firm belivever in being as helpful as I can, so I just thought I would run this by my greek sounding board!
Thanks everyone!

i think

that it is a very thoughtful and kind thing to do for your friend. if the chapter i advise received a letter from a member of a sorority not present on campus, about someone they knew personally, i would make sure that all the girls knew about this young woman and that the letter was read aloud for all to hear. best wishes to your friend.

Thumbs up

As both a former Advisor and Recruitment Information Chairman, I would be thrilled to get such a letter! I would think that you were acting terribly Panhellenic, and that you were being quite gracious in passing the information on to other chapters.

This year we received a rec from an alumna of ADPi. The letter she wrote was lovely and very touching. The ADPi alumna knew the PNM her entire life, therefore we felt it was a valid rec. We also had a father write a rec this year on behalf of his deceased wife who was an AOII. Talk about a tear jerker...

I don't know about this. This recruitment the Panhellenic office recieved like 6 letters from a PNM's relatives (some greek, some not) for references. We usually have all rec's sent directly to the chapters. We contacted the mother after the first one and let her know about the policy but the letters kept coming.

I would definitely suggest not sending one to Panhellenic so they would have to figure out the intention. Sending it directly to the individual chapters would do more.

I know with Phi Mu we have forms to fill out that are only available to members. I don't know if a letter like this would fulfill the requirements a fraternity would have (if they require one).

BTW the girl did get a bid on her own without the "To Whom it May Concern Letter"
