Guardians of the Diamond
Hey girls,
So with all this discussion on pins and whatnot I started another yahoo group (I swear I must be addicted to them, LOL). It is called, creatively enough, Guardians of the Diamond (GotD or GD, which ever y'all prefer).
Here is the link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/guardians_diamond/
Now if you are a member of Virtual Violets I did an automatic invite for you to join. I also listed a few other sisters that I have email addresses for that aren't members of VV.
If you are interested in joining you can either A) go to the link and then Shannan (yes I made you a moderator ) or I will approve your membership. Or B) email or PM me and I will do an invite with your email address, no approval necessary.
adpiucf: no we haven't emailed any of the bidders on the ADPhi pin, do you think we should?

Question: Is Guardians of the Diamond EO's "official" name for our pin rescue, or could we change it?
I ask this because I'm very uncomfortable with the initials, and I know I can't be the only one. Maybe we could be Protectors instead of Guardians - or am I being a zealot?

Honey, i'm not quite sure why Guardian isn't a good choice. I have done a little research on the word guardian. Here is what I found...
Entry: guardian
Function: noun
Definition: protector
Synonyms: alarm clock, angel, attendant, babysitter, bird dog, Cerberus, champion, conservator, cop, curator, custodian, defender, escort, guard, keeper, nurse, overseer, paladin, patrol, preserver, safeguard, sentinel, shepherd, sitter, sponsor, superintendent, supervisor, trustee, vigilante, warden, watchdog
However, Since Kappa has Keepers of the Key. Why not something that starts with a D.
I'm not having any luck with the "D" words. But I was thinking, what about Heiress or Heir to the Diamonds, or Governesses of the Diamond. How about some of these words?
affiliation, aggregation, alliance, association, band, body, brotherhood, business, cartel, circle, clique, club, coalition, combination, company, concord, confederation, consortium, cooperative, corporation, coterie, crew, crown corporation, establishment, federation, fellowship, fraternity, guild, house, industry, institute, institution, league, lodge, order, outfit, party, profession, set, society, sodality, sorority, squad, syndicate, team, trade, troupe, trust, union

I think where Honey's coming from is more the initials we'd use to signify the group (GoD), which I can agree makes me a little uncomfortable as well. What about Defenders of the Diamond (if we want to do a double-D name), or something similar?

How about calling it the ADPi Paraphernalia Auction Rescue and TaskForce?
Cute acronyms are fun, but most of the ones out there don't make any damn sense. It's no use having a cute name if you have to stand there for 10 minutes and explain what it means. From a marketing program viewpoint, anyway.... but what do I know, right?
I'm groaning as I realize that the above is also an acronym: PART. As in "We're all doing our PART to preserve the history of ADPi." Which isn't a bad official goal to state in your mission statement.
I'd recommend starting a website on freewebs.com. The template is easy. You can attach a paypal link and people can make donations.

Honey,
I changed the, I guess you could call it acronym, from GoD to GotD and said we could just say GD based on your concerns.
Not to sound rude or anything but I did state this in my original post,
"It is called, creatively enough, Guardians of the Diamond (GotD or GD, which ever y'all prefer)."
Secondly, GC has not come back saying anything about the name, what I can tell you is that when I spoke to Karin about Virtual Violets, she was calling the pin rescue Guardians of the Diamond. So I'm not even sure if GC wants to change it to something else. If GC does come back and say "change the name", well then I guess we change the name.

Too funny!
As I was emailing w/PolarPi, I went to abreviate the name, skipping the "t", and then realized what that spelled! I got a laugh outta that, I must say! I started hear the Blues Brothers, "we're on a mission from G__."
My two cents: I like Guardians of the Diamond the best of what I've seen so far. I do like the aliteration from Defenders of the Diamond (similar to Kappa's), yet I don't particularly like the word Defender even though it is synonymous to Guardian.
Now, Kappa's name not only uses aliteration, it uses the "K" sound, and K is the primary letter by which their sorority is known. We're known as "A D Pi", sometimes as "Alpha Delts", but that "A" sound is there. I don't think we could put together any appropriate name giving aliteration with the "A" sound, tthough. Any suggestions on that? "Allies of Alphie" doesn't really cut it...
End result - My choice is Guardians of the Diamond! (Sorry I had to take you thru all that to get here!)

Hijacking in here....
How about "Digging for Diamonds" or "Diamond Miners"?
Sorry I *couldn't* resist....
Back to your important conversation!

Well, I made a couple suggestions to Brianna. I got a real giggle out of "on a mission from G-d!" but I just don't think that is going to play well in the Bible Belt (our strength!).
One that I suggested was Protecters of the Diamond (POD), but I guess that would make us Pod People...

Honey,
I will definately add that to the, well um list, that well only has one suggestion on it.
If you are a member of the yahoo group, please give more suggestions, we will vote on it (in the group as a poll) next week.
(I don't want to sound all mean that the poll won't be on GC, but it won't be. So if you wanna vote, just give me your email address (via pm or email) and I will invite you to join the group).
