Smile QteasieD's (non)Rush

I'm such a huge lurker on this chat board, but I haven't been on in awhile. I'm NOT rushing this semester, but I have decided to become an interest of Mu Sigma Upsilon, a multicultural sorority. I'm only an interest until next semester, when pledging officially starts. Although I respect NPC, I just don't feel that it was where I needed to be.

I went to an interest meeting last week, and I was just hooked. Rush was one of the things that I looked forward to when I came back for fall, but when I learned more about MSU, it didn't matter to me. I signed up the first day. I almost decided to quit and just rush, but I just couldn't turn my back on the girls who will soon be my sisters. Even though I didn't know them that well, I just couldn't do it. After sitting with them for our first official meeting as a group today, I had NO doubt I made the right decision.

It's so cool that I'm an MSU interest now, because last year I was thinking about starting up a chapter of MSU with another girl, but we didn't and she transfered anyway. Now I'm here again, and I just feel like this is where I need to be. *I even get choked up looking at the pin that the sisters gave us as appreciation for our interest*

Good luck to all the NPC sororities during recruitment, and to the PNM's who are still looking for their home, even if it's not in Panhel. You really will end up where you are meant to be, even if that means not being Greek at all.

*Bye*

Congratulations to you and your new home!!! You sound very happy....

What exactly do you do as an "interest"? Do you have meetings that you attend, and how involved are you with their activities? I have never heard of that before.

By interest I mean that we (the TIARA Group) have a semester of meetings to discuss fundraisers and community service, and also attend events to bond with each other and sisters from other chapters before we pledge. It's a sorority which is proud of its small numbers because of how close chapters are together. All ladies interested in MSU must be a TIARA for a semester before they start pledging. We held our first meeting last night, and an Executive Board was elected at that meeting. Our chapter should be established by March on my campus. We're really new, so it'll be about another week before we begin fundraising. We also can't participate in functions with other Greeks, since we're not officially a sorority (yet!). I just can't say that I'm a sister or a pledge because I'm not(yet!). That's basically all there is to it because we are independent from NPC and NPHC.

I am really glad that you started this thread. I LOVE to hear about interest stories from multicultural/asian/latina sororities because people rarely come on greekchat and talk about it. Keep us posted!!

Congrats qteasied on taking the first steps toward founding a chapter of a multicultural sorority on your campus! Which school will you and your group be starting Mu Sigma Upsilon?

There is a good reason for that. Discretion is REALLY important.
