Sisterhood?
I usually try to excuse our lack of sisterhood by explaining that Gamma Eta is at a women's college that does not allow Greek social organizations. We can't interact with Phi Mu Alpha and we can't model ourselves after any sororities. We do the absolute minimum ritual and members treat it like it's just another club, only this one so so much more expensive. HELP! It sometimes makes me to sad that I want to become inactive. Anyone have any suggestions for bonding?

I know what your feeling about sisterhood. In my chapter it seems that we're much closer than other sororities because we already have at least one thing in common and that's music. I think that one of our problems with sisterhood is that we already spend SO much time with each other outside of SAI that when it comes time for meetings or functions, we're sick of each other. However, I do find that social functions really do help with bonding. In my chapter we had problems finding time to plan social events, so we would have games or refreshments before the meeting or we would go out to eat as a group afterwards. I hate to hear that your group hasn't bonded all that well. I know that my sisters are my closest friends.

I hear your sisters are very sweet! My fiance is an alum of the Sinfonia chapter at Morehead State University and Joey is his Little!

So you're Bobby's girlfriend! I met you last semester when you two visited Morehead. I was hanging out with Joey and our MIT's were having a bake sale. Yeah, most of our sisters are really sweet. I just graduated and already I really miss them. I hope things get better for your chapter.

If it makes you feel better darlin, ALL chapters go through a hard time at some point. And it won't necessarily change overnight...but take small steps.
The easiest way? Start doing more! Host something fun for the chapter. If you feel your chapter isn't close, have a heart-to-heart get together. Have everyone take turns speaking about what SAI means to them and why they pledged. Open up to each other.

I've just come off a 3 semester hiatus from SAI partially due to personal tragedies and partially because it just wasn't "fun" for me. Tonight was my first meeting since November 2002 and it was incredible. Things have definitely turned around and our chapter is so much more active and on the right track than I ever remember. My point (there is one) is that even the seemingly worst situations can pan out far better than you ever expect. Hang in there and do all you can individually to encourage sisterhood. People will follow your lead.
