reinstating exmembers

Sage of Ages gave me this idea for a topic. This is her quote from a previous thread,"Fortunately that is NOT the case with Phi Mu. When a member relinquishes her membership, she has voluntarily withdrawn her membership for any number of reasons. Should she come to her senses in later years, she can petition to the National Council for reinstatement. I know...I recently helped a sister find her way home. It was a joyous moment for us.

If a member is dismissed from membership, usually she can not reinstate her membership. National Council always has the final decision."

What is the case with your sorority or fraternity? I am not sure of Chi Omega, but I seriously doubt we would ever reinstate someone that turned in their pin.

If you were active, I guess you'd have to go through the same voting process again.

Only the High Council can approve alum initiates though. Which in this case, I highly doubt that they would.

we had sisters that have come back from both voluntary and involuntary suspensions.
However we have two types-
I forget the technical names, but basically one makes you a member not in good standing and the other you are never allowed back in to the fraternity.
With the first one you have to wait at least a year to petition Internationals to become reinstated and pay a reinstatement fee.
Other AGDs can correct me if I have any info wrong.

A brother in Phi Mu Alpha cannot voluntarily relinquish his membership in the Fraternity. Per our General Regulations:

Membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia shall be for life and may not be terminated by the member through his resignation. However, as stated in the National Constitution, a member may be suspended or expelled for due cause by the chapter of his affiliation or by the Commission on Standards.

In the case of suspension, restoration to full membership can either be automatic (a member is automatically suspended for failure to pay dues, and is automatically reinstated upon payment of all dues) or can be accomplished by the body -- chapter or Commission on Standards -- that imposed the suspension.

In the case of expulsion, whether by the chapter of affiliation or by the Commission on Standards, the decision of expulsion can be appealed to the National Executive Committee. If the expulsion is upheld by the NEC, it is, as I understand it, permanent with no possibility of reinstatement.

Of course, it would be possible for a member -- at least a collegiate member -- to indirectly "quit" the Fraternity. Failure to pay dues would, as noted, lead to suspension and, if it went on long enough, could lead to expulsion. But only collegiate members and members of local alumni associations are required to pay dues; alumni-at-large are encouraged to pay annual dues but are not required to do so in order to remain in good standing.

Hope I got all of that right.

In general, yes, there are cases in which a former initiated member may be reinstated into AOII. I believe it's a on case by case basis, and any monies owed must be remitted beforehand. There are a certain number of years which must pass before petitioning for reinstatement.

Gamma Phi has very similiar rules to AOII, to the best of my knoweldge.

I actually know of a woman who will be reinstated into Chi Omega soon - she was forced to turn in her pin.

AOII has 2 different options, a suspended member may appeal her suspension within 14 days of the letter sent by our International Executive Board. If she chooses not to do that, she may appeal the descision again after 3 years of the initial suspension.

I am sure it depends on the violation.

1. Owing back dues.

2. Hazing.

3. Drugs.

They are unto themselves the death of a Member.

If they pay their Dues, then they can be petitioned to be reinstated.

The other two, then there is problem with our Risk Management.
