I love candle passes! I wish I could have one before I graduate but it's looking like it's not going to happen.

I had one when I got engaged. However, none of my girls knew the song that is traditionally sung during the candlepass because it had been so long since we had had one.....nevertheless, it was lovely.

Oh they are so fun! I remember how excited we all were when we found out we were having one. I missed having mine by a few months

Now I'm trying to remember what we sang....

We do them 2-3 times a year, but we've never sang... Usually it's awkwardly silent. I'd love to learn a song to sing for it!!

Yay! We call them candlelights and usually end up having 2-3 per year. It's very exciting when the president announces the candlelight - everyone has way too much fun gossiping about who it might be.

Oh, and we sing "I Dream of You".

We sang "If her heart is true" which is in the Pi Phi songbook as the Sweetheart song (yes, I have the 1991 Songbook that came with a tape)-- it is available at HQ for $6... if you don't have one, get your secretary to order it! There are also some songs on the Fraternity Orientation CD but that is not one of them.

Since my chapter did not have a house, and our suite was not large enough for all of us to be in a circle for a candle passing, we would go out into the parking lot (unless it was too cold). All of the other groups would do the same thing so we would serenade the girl afterwards.... nothing like having all 5 sororities serenade you!

I love this song!

If her heart is true
If her colors are wine and blue
If her eyes seem to shine like the arrow she wears
Waiting for someone like you
Then her dreams can start
With the magic that dreams impart
For at last you'll be certain and sure that she's
Your Pi Beta Phi girl
Your Pi Phi sweetheart

We sing three different songs for ours..

The candle starts with the president and you sing the first one until it is either blown out or gets back to the president.. signifying lavaliering. The song is "Pi Phi Lights .." (cant remember the name)

The second time around is "Picture a Girl".. for pinning..
Then the third we sing "going to the chapel" for engaged

We sing the Arrow Girl song...

When you find a girl
With the arrow...
She'll be the girl for you
She will be fairer
Than any other
That you ever knew

Her heart will be pure
Like a flower...
Her love
Steadfast and true

When you find a girl
With the arrow bright
She'll stay by you
Both day and night
And she'll, be the girl, for you

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have a candlepass. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I may get to have one when I come back to IN Gamma for their formal recruitment. Who knows?

we used it at prefs as well, but the words we sing are different...

it only takes a spark
to get a fire going
and soon all those around
will warm up to its glowing

thats how it is in pi beta phi
once you've experienced it
the friendships true
the wine and blue
i want to pass it on

And now the time has come
to choose a college family
a sisterhood of love
a sisterhood of caring
(*im pretty sure thats how the last two lines there go*)

thats how it is in pi beta phi
once you've experienced it
the friendships true
the wine and blue
i want to pass it on

then we hum while we do this whole candle thing..
