Angry DZ's...e-Bay has a badge of yours...

"Here is a nice vintage Delta Zeta pin. The pin has set seed pearls and a small diamond. It is dated 3/5/32. With the name Mark K Hampton on the back. It is 5/8" by 5/8" at the widest points. The pin is made of gold but is not marked."

Why is there a man's name on the DZ pin? Why would someone want to sell their pin. I plan on keeping my pin for memories and to show my children(when I have children).

There is a DZ alumnae group called Surfing Sisters. It is like any of the
other DZ alumnae groups where you have to join and pay dues (very small
amount), but unlike the other groups that are by location, this one is made
up of sisters all over who just talk via email. Because Surfing Sisters
considers the internet their homebase, one of the tasks they have taken upon
themselves is to constantly monitor ebay for DZ badges. They have rescued
quite a few badges to date. They currently have their eyes on the one you
found, and currently have the high bid. Thank you for the post.

I'm no expert and I dont know the story behind this DZ Pin. But, often times there are reasons beyond our control that our stuff lands in ebay. One would be if you died, didnt put it in your will or you didnt make plans to send it back to your Fraternity or Sorority. There are other reasons I'm sure. If you guys see any Beta Theta Pi Badges let me know.

Hey Kevin,

I'll be glad to keep an eye out for your fraternity badges! (By the way, one of my very first fraternity parties was at the Beta Theta Pi house at Georgia Tech.)

Yes, I had a great time! That was several years ago. I was saddened to find out a couple of years later that the house had caught fire. If I remember correctly, no one was injured though! I believe the house was re-built, although I'm not sure if it's on the original site. I'll have to check next month when football season starts!

By the way, for those of you wanting to know about the DZ badge - one of our Surfing Sisters won the auction! That's one badge that will be going back WHERE IT BELONGS!!!

I was very happy to hear about this group last year at Convention. Come to find out you don't have to just be an alumna to join you can also be in your undergrad years too. It only cost $7.00 a year and the money goes to the foundation. If anyone is intersted please let me know and I can get you more information.

Hope you're all having a great day!!

Cool, I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Wow, I never heard about the fire there. I'm glad to hear none of the guys there got hurt and they rebuilt their house. Nothing like Beta Spirit to triumph through adversity or a crisis like that. You'll have to keep me updated when football starts

Congratulations on winning your DZ badge back and putting it where it belongs!!

Hi Carrie,

Thanks I'll look forward to your updates Its definitely cool that the football season is here and the fall is about to begin. I love watching the VT Hokies myself. My school only had a club team.

Could it have been that in 32 they used a badge for their husbands instead of the pin we currently use to honor our husbands? I think it would be interesting to find out.

Hi Kevin,

I'll let you know about the house in just a few weeks. GA Tech football can't start early enough for me! I'm SO ready for that first home game.

Oftentimes, when a DZ marries a fraternity member, she will wear both badges. Some have the two badges linked together permanently, like this sister obviously did. Other sisters keep them separate. Headquarters allows us to wear both badges if we are married, as long as the fraternity badge is worn below ours. Hope this answers your question!

Mrs.Florence Miner has her badge attached to her husbands Sig Ep pin.
