question about rush & GC

let's say sorority sue from XYZ posts here on GC and i know that she attends the university that i will be rushing at. if i happen to meet sorority sue while i'm rushing, should i mention that i have talked to her on GC, etc? or should i keep quiet and just pretend that i don't know her??

I would say don't mention it. I say this because 2 years ago I was rushing a girl who told me that she had been all over these boards, and I knew exactly who she was on the boards after that. Especially if you post which chapters you go to on certain days, we can figure out what group you're in at least for round one. She didn't say anything too terrible on here, and I never rushed to all my sisters to tell them what this one particular pnm thought of all the sororities on campus, because even if you don't post the name, sorority women at your school can probably figure out which one's which. I could see other people, though, using any of what you say on here against you. A sister might very well feel threatened to some degree if she knows you know everything she's said about rush at her campus. Weird, yes, but it could happen. I know that other people may not agree with me on this, but I think talking about GC either generally or specifiacally about a person during rush is a big no no.

I agree. Don't mention that you've been on the boards.

Also, you being on these boards can make you seem either really eager & full of spirit, or desperate. I hate to say it but it's true. Some people can completely misunderstand you intentions. Just be yourself & have a blast. Good-Luck!

I would try to be as anonymous as possible while going through Recruitment. While we can't force you to do anything, we can encourage you to keep your campus location secret, and while doing that, it's probably best to keep the sororities on your campus secret too.

I can think of two incidents where a GC PNM didn't get bids because of what she said online. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

GC's a wonderful Recruitment tool and you'll get sound advice from ladies who have already gone through it, so if I were you, I'd take that advice and go through Recruitment with an open mind, and hopefully you'll be able to find your home.

Great advice OTW.

I second the 'keeping your campus location and the sororities on your campus" secret too.

Let's say you tell us what state your school is in, and the real names of the 4 NPC groups on your campus. Even if you code the names later on so you can tell your rush story, there are seriously some DIE HARD GC'ers who will find out what school you're on by the names of the sororities and the state you said you were in. Some may even be active members or alums of one of the sororities on your campus (and like UFGirl said use things you say against you during rush).

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but it's happened, so like OTW said, try to be as annonymous as possible, but don't be afraid to share your annoymous story if you would like to.

Best of luck and have a great time
