Wedding Traditions?

I was just curious about any wedding traditions other chapters may have, because I just attended a sister's wedding and expected something special. I was told that since there was only about 5 of us there (it was three hours away from school-only 10 min. from me!!) and the sister was never really active, nothing had been planned. We have about 7 more weddings over the next year, so I was wondering about ideas.

I'm getting married in 2 months and 18 days (no, I'm not counting

) and I'm inviting 7 sisters. I doubt that we'll do anything special except play our chapter song and sing and dance to it. I've never attended the wedding of a sister, and I've never been told of any traditions.

I had a few DZ touches at my wedding. While the guests were being seated, one of my sisters sang a song we used to sing at my chapter. I can't remember the name but it went "A golden lamp and a pale pink rose, two symbols of a love that grows. with faith and temperance and courage strong and the will to oppose all she thinks is wrong. These then are the symbols dear, the ones the carries year to year. And when from this life she goes, she'll carry a lamp and a pale pink rose" Of course, no one who wasn't a Delta Zeta understood the meaning really, but it is a pretty song.

Also, I had a little extra piece of fabric sewn into my gown and I pinned my big's badge there. It was my "something borrowed"

I would have liked to incorporate rose and green into the color scheme somehow, but honestly that isn't really a favorite color scheme of mine!

My chapter (Lambda Pi) has a wedding tradition. We all gather around the DZ bride at the reception, forming a circle by holding hands. We sing "It's Just A Little Lamp" and then afterwards huddle together and do our 2 favorite DZ cheers. It's always a big hit at the reception. The guests love it.

When a girl graduates, her little sister(s) makes her wedding garter belt, even if she's not planning on being married soon. In return, the big sister makes a rag doll for her little sister(s), which is meant to be given to the girl's first born child.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

At my chapter in California, the delta zetas that attend the wedding purchase one tea cup and saucer (with pink roses on it) and present it to the bride at her wedding. Often the women sing a DZ song at the same time the tea cup is given. Then we take a DZ photo with the bride.
The tea cup thing is an old tradition at our chapter. It used to be that when a woman got engaged the woman was responsible for buying a tea cup and giving it to the chapter to be placed in the china cabinent. Then when the married ladies would return to the house for alumna teas, they would be able to use their tea cup (if they could still identify it). well the house started to get too many tea cups so the tradition changed and now the tea cup is bought for the bride and she keeps it, whith the intention that she is supposed to bring it with her to alumna teas.

In our chapter, we also form a circle holding hands around the bride. We then sing "Delta Zeta Now and Always". The words are "Delta Zeta now and always,___?____ will we ever be. Sisterhood we share together last until eternity. Killarney rose and lamp of gold,______?_____ years of joy unfold. Though we go our seperate ways, we'll be sisters all our days." Sorry, I can't remember a few of the words. Any one know them?

When a sister gets married in our chapter, we always sing "Blue Skies." This is the same song that we sing at Bid Day. These are the words, with commas separating the lines:

"Blue Skies, shining on me. Knowing that I am, a DZ. Sisters, loyal and true, a pledge of our friendship, we give to you. Never saw the sun shining so bright, never saw things going so right, never know how I wanted to be, part of a great sorority, oh blue days, all of them gone, in Delta Zeta, I belong. For she's a Delta Z, a girl you ought to know, for she's a Delta Z, not too fast and not too slow, she's a scholar and a a lady and a girl we all adore, and every time I see her, I want to see her more, for she's a Delta Z, a girl you ought to, girl you ought to, girl you ought to know! Hip Hip, Hooray!"

When a DZ gets married, usually each Delta Zeta guest is given a Killarney Rose as they enter the church with a little card with a saying on it. That way the DZs stand out at the wedding. Also, at the reception, there is a song circle where the sisters sing to the bride until she can make it around the whole circle having hugged everyone and greeted them. Our chapter sings a song called "Different Worlds" then a Killarney Rose song, and "Delta Z" and others. We sing the solemn, slower songs that we use at Pref.
