Anyone an event coordinator?

I am thinking of switching careers. I am currently a graphic designer and I am not really into it. I have a degree and everything and it's not what I expected it to be. (Partly because my job is kinda bunk.)

So I was thinking about event planning. So I was wondering if anyone here is involved in it or any form of it: catering, wedding and special event planning, meeting planning, etc etc etc.

I am usually super organized, love a challenge, work better under pressure, and pretty creative.

But I graduated with a design degree...

I am wondering what firms look for in an event planner. What do they look for in a resume. One of my sisters actually works for a big event planning firm here and she has a biology degree.
Does it pay well? Well worth it?

Anything will help. Thanks!

Hey, I have a good friend (also named Jen) who is an event planner. She used to work for Merv Griffin Enterprises. Now she works for a smaller firm that handles the Red Bull account. She does a lot of stuff in Europe and just did a big thing for them in Hawaii. She was also in charge of the World Stunt Awards.

She loves it and is so good at it! I know she has her degree from USC in Communications.

I don't know if that helped

I worked part time for a small catering company up in Lubbock after interning last summer at a hotel doing front desk and reservations, and spending some time with the sales staff on days off seeing what they do, or learning about some things they do, and realized I could see myself doing that, I'm planning on my career being in catering sales, event planning, meeting planning, I'm getting my degree in restaurant & hotel mgmt. , the corporate catering sales mgr. at the hotel I interned with had a degree in something totally unrelated to hospitality or sales,( I think history?) so I'm thinking that's not the be all in it, though I figure it helps..., I know experience is a big thing in the industry.
