Unofficial Poll: Political Leanings

I am aware that GreekChat's membership roster boasts staunch conservatives and diehard liberals and every degree in between.

In this thread, imagine a scale of 1-10 with Pat Robertson a 10 and (okay, someone help me out here. Who is a hardcore liberal? Maybe Michael Moore? The editor of the New Republic? ) a 1.

Where on this scale do you fall? I think I will wait a few days and then take the average just because I have my idea what it will be and I'm curious to see if I'm right.

Remember, though. No debate or namecalling or anything like that. Please just put down your screenname and a number between 1 and 10.

Thanks!

I am a classical liberal.

Most Americans who claim to be liberal, aren't. They are usually social-democrats.

Read this, and you'll understand:
http://www.self-gov.org/quiz.html

Most people who are conservative, lable me a "liberal," and most social-democrats label me a "conservative."

Basically, whatever you think you are, subtract that from 10, and that's how you'll perceive me.

Socially, I'm probably a 2
Fiscally, I'm probably a 9
Defense Policy, I'm a 9

socially liberal
fiscally moderate

I'm not a libertarian (I see some areas where the government should spend money while the libertarians at ISU dont), and I'm not a socialist....

put me down for a 2

edit: oops, I was thinking liberal on the high number.

The scale does not apply. Fiscally, I'm very conservative. However, in other areas, I'm more libertarian (social, business and immigration policy).

I'm registered Republican because those are the primaries that usually count for something in Oklahoma.

According to the quiz Russ posted above, I'm a left liberal.

I'd put myself at about a 1.5.

These words confuse me. Where do libertarians fit? What about communists?

I'm financially conservative and socially liberal. Ummm... if I have to scale myself, I would put me at about a 2.

Eta: the first sentence of this post makes me look kinda stupid.

Communists = Liberals (in favor of redistribution of the wealth, socialized medicine, etc.)

Or maybe you could call liberals "Communist-Lite"

I thought socialists were "Communism-lite"...

But she does bring up a point I'd like answered... what are the Libertarians? Left-wing or Right-wing?

As for my own political leans.... hmm on the scale used at the start of the thread I'd say around a 3 or a 2.5...

There are differences between Communists, Socialists and Liberals.
Or should we just call all conservative persons Fascist-Lite?

I don't know... I guess it all depends on what party they're from

As a person who believes that society and culture can only be as strong as the least of us, that those who protect the rest of us need to be paid a living wage AND supplied with adequate equipment along with competent leadership, and as Ron Reagan put it "when the tide rises all the boats raise" and knowing you don't water a plant through its leaves....
