Hi girls,
I hyave a few questions about your sorority!
1) How many active college chapters do you have
2) average chapter size
3) number of alumnae chapters
4) are men allowed or just women? (I seem to have read that DO is co-ed but is mostly women and I am wondering if you are the same)
5) would you classify yourself as a morthern, southern etc sorority? Do you find more chapters succeddding in a certain part of the country? Or is it pretty much the same everywhere?

Thanks so much for the interest. I'll be glad to answer!

1)Approximately 200 active college chapters.

2)Honestly, this all depends on the size of the school, though I would say between 15-25 is probably a good guess.

3)About 120 currently. There is at least one interest group currently, and a few were just installed in recent months.

4)Here's the deal. We are a women's fraternity, and only women are allowed. However, certain types of honorary membership (Friend of the Arts, National Arts Associate) ARE open to men.

5)If you go here you can click on each province and see what chapters are where. But in general....we succeed and are most active in most areas; however, the western US there are far fewer chapters (California has many, though); and also, in New England states there are only a couple chapters. I do encourage you to explore that map, because it also shows founding dates for each chapter, as well as which chapters are inactive.

If you want to know more, please don't hesitate to ask!

I'd say we have the most chapters in the midwest and the south. For example, the Chicago area is a hotbed of SAI (click on the northern illinois region on that map to see what I mean), and there are a ton of chapters in Texas as well.

Yeah, that's true. Arkansas has 5 college and 2 alumnae...that's not too bad. I know that a few of the alums from over at Fayetteville had been talking at Convention last summer about restarting the Fayetteville Alumnae chapter, but I don't know if they have even talked anymore about it.

Alabama used to have just 2 chapters and now we have (I believe) 5. I wouldn't really try to classify us regionally, although there are certain areas that have more chapters than others. My chapter I suppose is sort of large because we have around 50 or so but only about half of them are really active.
