Nationwide Cable
Does it exist? I don't know how cable works, but is there anyone who provides coast to coast service? I'm looking for cable t.v. and internet service.

There are national companies that own local subsidiaries from coast to coast, but they're operated as seperate divisions. Most parts of the country only have one cable TV provider from which to choose. In many parts of Manhattan, people have two cable companies available.
In addition, there is satellite TV. DirecTV used to offer DSL as part of package, but that was discontinued. They have satellite internet access. Dish Network has a partnership with EarthLink.

It seems like comcast and adelphia have purchased most of the cable lines in the west. Like Russ said, we can only get cable through one provider (in my neighborhood it's Adelphia which is TERRIBLE). Direct TV and Dish are a great option for people whose places face the right direction.

Jeni just look in your phone book under cable.
Call each one and ask them to run down ALL of their packages that offer the cable channels you want plus internet.

most of Iowa is Mediacom or TCI.
A few years ago TCI tried to get rid of MTV and VH-1 for the Des Moines viewing audience... that didn't go over too well

I have crappy ass Time Warner Cable, who likes to once a month shut my service off just for the hell of it.
I know what you're thinking -- she doesn't pay her bill on-time! Nope, I even pay it early, but they like to play little mind games with me for some reason.
I would much rather have Comcast, if for no other reason than to be able to get CSS!
Jeni - Where are you moving to? If we knew where, someone who lives around there may be able to give you some advice.

I'm looking for service in Nyack, New York. The ultimate plan is to go 1) cable tv, 2) cable internet, and finally 3) internet phone instead of an over priced "landline." I think it would be easiest in that order.
I would REALLY appreciate any help on local companies!!

Just check any major carrier's site. Comcast is the biggest. Plug your NY zipcode in and you should be all set.
You should probably call their customer service # from there.

Thanx! I always see Comcast commercials but I don't think we have Comcast where I am now. It's really odd.
