good friends in other GLOs??
Ok so I have a cute story that I'm sure all of you have. Do any of you have friends in other GLOs? and I mean good friends. Ha well heres my story about how I got mine.
So me and this girl dated the same guy, go figure, i was first then she was next. We both thought we hated eachother. She was in a different sorority so that kinda added to the wierdness. One night at a party we somehow ended up talking and sorting things out. We realized that neither of us had a problem with the other. So after that night when we saw eachother we would say hi and be nice. Slowly we got closer. We would go eat lunch at the pub together, we would always hang out at parties, we would call eachother just to say hi. It also lead to us having the idea to have an all sorority mixer to prove to everyone that our 2 groups could get along
So what I'm trying to say is that one of my good friends to this day is in another GLO. And i love her to death as if she were my own sister. Some things have happened to me this summer which forced me to move back home, not gonna go into the details right now but it had to do with my own sisters, but she was right there with full support.
I would love to hear about other stories, cuz i know that being in different orgs. can cause tension and what not but i would like to know how that helps eachother. cuz for us we had eachother to lean on when we need an outlet.
By the way with my move back home I'm on this friendship kick...haha oh and she is apart of the wonderful org of Gamma Phi Beta and i am/was apart of a local organization.

friends in other GLO's
Funny you should mention this...
My maid of honor at my wedding was a DG at my school. We were teammates together in college and I keep in touch with quite a few girls from that house. Her house and my own were the 2 I was torn between...I ended up with the best of both worlds.
On a side note, my sister-in-law was a DG at Mizzou and she said she was torn btwn DG and Tri Delta also, but went the opposite of what I did--too weird!

We only have two sororities at my school and so there has always been a kind of rivalry between the two and coming in as a new member, i hated to see girls in my rush class go away and i was pretty much under the impression that i couldnt hang out with them. NOTE: it wasn't anything either sorority said, it was just something I assumed, because it just seemed that way. Well, i hung out with some of the sig ep guys and made friends with one that was engaged to a girl in the other sorority. I kind of approached her warily because i was just naturally kind of "oh, you hate me because i'm a dg" Well, we were always friendly towards each other, but i was afriad she was deep down hating me. One night she seemed a little "off" and I asked her if she wanted to talk about it and we ended up sitting and talking for like 3 hours and she spilled out everything. I realized that she felt the same way towards me (afraid i was deep down hating her) and we ended up becoming really close. I'm closer to her than i am to some of my sisters. She has asked me to be part of her wedding and I was with her when she signed her resignation papers from her GLO.
I wish we had more groups on campus so we could promote cross-letter boundry breaking and greek group unity.
Sincerly

In the music department, I'm friends with some of the people in Tau Beta Sigma.
Outside of that, I have several friends in Delta Zeta and one in AOII.

It's been tough to try and keep friendships going with the sisters that I met during rush because schedules are so busy. But, I have become good friends with a couple of AOPi's, and a ZTA alum that I met last summer way before rush. I used to be really close to my Bible study group, who were all ADPi's, but they've since graduated, gotten married and moved away.

I have a close friend who is an Alpha Phi. We've been good friends since our freshmen year, and we're also the same major. Today I just found out that she's engaged, and I feel honored enough to be invited to her wedding!
I think this thread is a good idea. I know sometimes, at least on my campus, chapters tend to stick to themselves. We need to encourage growth of bonds between different orgs!

It's ironic that I just saw this thread. Tonight I met a KD from another school. We were reminiscing about our sorority days, I make it sound like they're so far away but we both graduated in May. I was telling her that I have 2 friends in KD, 1 of whom I met randomly (she went to high school with a guy who lived on my floor freshman year), and we just started talking at the bars 1 night. Now whenever we see each other out, we freak out and scream! It's so funny, I love her and I was telling this KD tonight that I wish my friend was my sister. The same goes for 2 girls in AOPi. They're so awesome, I met 1 through 1 of my sisters and the other through a mutual friend at a party. I wish I was sisters with them too. I have a very close friend from freshman year in Sig Kap. I talk to her all the time, and I know we'll be friends for a long time. And I know 2 Thetas from classes who I love seeing out at the bars too!

ONe of my closest friends is an ADPi- she went to another school and our chapters are identical to each other, except for the letters!
The even funnier part is our ADPis were like their AGD's!
We love it! She is so sweet and I just love her!

When I was in college, I had a number of friends who were not Zeta's. Today it is even more true. Through Alumnae Panhellenic, I have made many close friends and we view ourselves as sisters who just happen to wear different pins. In fact, last night an ADPi who is advisor to her chapter called me to ask my opinion and advice on a situation involving ADPi and formal recruitment. It didn't even occur to her (or to me!) that I would look at the situation in the light that would best benefit the Zeta chapter on campus. We looked at it as to what was best Panhellenically.
We all love our individual groups but don't lose sight of the fact that we are all Greek!!

Ok....well heres my little story.
I moved up to UNT knowing no one...being 5 hours away from home, and all my friends had gone to Texas A&M. Im very stubborn, and dont like doing the norm, so i went away to UNT. I met this girl outside the dorms when we were waiting to move in, and we hit it off right away. We became really close friends, and she, in turn, introduced me to some other people(all going through rush, since rush happens the week before school). I became really close to her, and we ended up being in the same Rho Gamma group. Our other friends were in different groups, and so our journey began. We both loved Zeta and Pi Phi, but I was cut from Zeta the 2nd day and she was cut from Pi Phi. I remember we were both kind of upset because we both loved these groups, and we didnt have the same groups we were going back to for pref night. So pref night came, and she put Zeta first and I put Pi Phi first. We both got our first choices, and we are as close as ever. The Greek System at UNT has become very united, at least sorority wise, and we do have our rivalaries(like when we were playing flag football and the other team tore my sisters ACL)...but its so fun to have a friend another organization...one I can be really close with. The other good friends I had went Kappa, Chi O, and Alpha Phi. So we are like our own little greek community when we go out.
just thought id share.

my college only has 2 sororities, and before i went through rush i assumed that the two groups didnt get along at all (and having guys in fraternities as freinds telling me this didnt help). after going through rush and pledging chi omega, i learned that the two groups didnt dislike each other but didnt spend that much time together. during my rush there were a lot of girls (my school is small so a lot of girls is like 100 or so) and we all got to know each other (formal recruitment). i didnt really talk to the girls that went the other way that much because new memeber semester is really busy. but after we all got initiated we realized that we hang out with a lot of the same guys as the girls in the other sorority, and didnt want it to be awkward anymore. one of my best friends now is an active in the other sorority and after hanging out a couple times we realized we had a lot in common and that having different letters didnt mean that we couldnt be friends! im way excited for this because this past fall when girls asked if the two groups get along i can honestly say that i have a great time hanging out with both organizations and that were friends!!

My best friend since I was 4 is a Deepher (Delta Phi Epsilon, for those who dont know) at Emory University. I am a Phi Sig at FAU. Its kinda cool, there is DPhiE at my school and if I had by chance joined them I could have been sisters with my best friend!

Some of my best friends at Ole Miss were of course, AOIIs, ZTAs, KKGs, Theta's, Tri Delt's, Chi O's, Pi Phi's, and Phi Mu's. I also had two best friends from highschool who attended other schools who were DZ's. I love them all. I enjoyed having friends in other GLOs. It was always fun to eat lunch at their houses or hang out with their members at a football game or a party at a frat house.
