But that's not ketchup. You eat fries, hot dogs, and burgers with ketchup not BBQ. BBQ is only for chicken.

Haha that's great. I didn't think it was a serious site at first.
I actually know people who don't buy Heinz ketchup for anti-Kerry reasons...I'll forward this link, they'll get a kick out if it.

That's great. Heinz is something I'll be staying away from. I don't know about "W Ketchup". Maybe the Wal-Mart ketchup will work.

I don't think anyone in my family has bought any Heinz products for about two years - including all the "other" products.
I can't believe that no one's commented that Kerry is the richest person to ever run for president!

I think a lot of his wife's holdings are "tied up" or whatever the word is for it and he doesn't have access to everything. Like his five different residences aren't his so much as hers.
Here's a bit of 'burg trivia, Honey...his Fox Chapel house is only a few miles away from the house I grew up in. Geographically, anyway. Financially, it was lightyears away. I attended Fox Chapel High School and I used to jog past it when I during tennis practice. I mean, I used to jog past the bottom of the driveway. Couldn't actually see the house.

As yet another yinzer, and someone who has studied NonProfit Organization law and taken a class with the Attorney General (the AG's office is responsible for watching over nonprofits), I will back up Tracy in that the money is tied up.
She is head of the Heinz Foundation, which has one of the largest endowments of foundations in the country. BUT, it's NOT HER MONEY. She does not have exclusive control over it, she just oversees the foundation, it cannot be spent on his political campaign or anything personal. That money has to go to charities, and it's a group that is definately under the watchdog's eye, especially the state Attorney General.
Now her PERSONAL finances, I'm sure, are quite large, but not on the billion dollar level like the Heinz Foundation. She draws a salary, but it wouldn't be that much (they're pretty strict about that), and that should be pretty easy to find out how much that is. It's guess lower six figures. But the media instead has chosen to latch on to that nice large figure of the overall endowment as opposed to what she actually makes.

Being a Pittsburgher, I find that sad. Enough jobs and industries have left this area. Teresa is not an officer and does not have any control over the Heinz Company. She heads the Heinz FOUNDATION, which does not manufacturer ketchup. This foundation funds many community and nonprofit programs across the country and right here in Pittsburgh. In fact, honeychile, i'd bet very good money that they help fund some of the programs that you are involved in or have been involved with.
This sort of boycott is incredibly silly.
As for the rest of you, if you want to suffer through watery crappy Hunt's ketchup, enjoy your soggy buns and lack of taste!
Just because her name is on it doesn't mean she controls it. Sure doesn't mean he has any access to it. Pretty sure there was a damn good prenup in that marriage.
Hell, i'm not boycotting Bush's baked beans just because they have the bush name on it!

AMEN.... do you have any idea how much the heinz foundation has contributed to educational and cultural institutions around this country? especially in pennsylvania?
furthermore, i feel far more inclined to question "ill gotten gains" from oil than from some freakin ketchup....

You can't really avoid Heinz in Pittsburgh, can you? Heinz Field, Heinz Hall, Heinz Chapel. And isn't there some sort of new museum named after the late Sen. Heinz dahntahn somewhere?

Not only is the boycott silly, it's completely misinformed. It's like saying you won't buy a Ford because you don't want to help the Ford Foundation (which endows professorships and provides funding for doctoral students, and is somewhat separate from the car company).
Heinz is really good ketchup. I'm not going to let my political leanings get in the way of good food!

The Heinz Regional History Center or something like that. Supposed to be really nice, I haven't been there, but my parents really enjoyed it.
And for all of you anti-Heinz people, be careful of what you buy, Heinz makes a lot of the generic/store brand ketchups too

Yes, indeed. Most of the Giant Eagle brands are actually Heinz' products, as are Weight Watchers, and some other very major item that I can't put my finger on right now.
I had the opportunity to meet Sen. John Heinz. I just don't see his money being used - or the interest thereof, or even his children being used as surrogates for, John Kerry. In fact, I think that breeze you're feeling is John Heinz spinning in his grave.
Oh, and btw, the daughter of the Australian subsidiary of Heinz' CEO is an ADPi. I remember rushing her at Allegheny College. It's one of the cheap shots that I think Kerry is making - talking about all the business that's been sent overseas when Heinz itself has 57 foreign offices (and I love the irony!).
