To Ipod or not to Ipod

Okay so I've been pondering this for a while... The campus computer store has IPods and mini Ipods for sale and I've been considering getting one... They're really nice but they are a lot of money and it seems to be in the category of the things I want but don't need...

I've got a mp3 player right now but it only holds like 64mb.. The mini ipod holds like 4gb (enough space for my entire collection)... I'd be using it mostly for the gym/jogging and prolly when i'm bored and maybe sometimes I'd hook it up to my stereo... I think its at a student price for like $220 at the store...

So what do you guys think? Waste of cash or worth it?

How many of you guys have em and was it worth buying it?

Lemmie know what u think because I've got a nasty habbit of unnecessary spending...

-Matt

Here's what I say. Get it, but...

Wait until this summer or at least until September or so. I think they're coming out with new stuff then and the prices will drop on older ones and new ones with newer features come out.

And, you can get a better discount than a student discount. It's called the "student developer" discount and you can do it online.

do some shopping first...check the internet to make sure you can find the bet deal. also make sure what you buy does indeed suit your needs. you don't want to start drooling when the new stuff comes out.

Do it before Orrin Hatch makes them illegal.

My parents got me the IPod mini for my birthday and I LOVE it! I take it with me to the gym and to work. The sound quality is great and it's really easy to use. I recommend it.

ETA:
I just wanted to mention that I have the pink mini.

I have a regular iPod and a pink iPod mini and I love them both. I mostly use the mini one though because you can get an armband for it so it's great to work out with. Plus I don't have like 5000 songs on my computer and most likely never will so the 4GB is enough for me.

Student charging fun stuff like this is the best, I am going to student charge a cell phone today.

I just got one and I'm obsessed with it! I use it when I'm working out, tanning, etc. I also have the attachment that you can get so that in your car you can play it on the radio (you have to tune in to a station not in use I think I use 88.1fm here in chicago and then you can listen to all your music on your IPOD) It beats carrying all my cd's around. I'd say go for it because it's definitly worth the price. The only reason you might want to wait is if they are coming out with new stuff at the end of the summer/september. Also, if you order it online, you can get your name ingraved on it for free (at least I know you can with the regular sized IPods, i dont know about the mini ones)!

I'm going to get a pink Ipod Mini for Christmas from my parents because that way I won't have to store my music on my computer! I'd get the mini personally because it's more compact and lighter, but at the same time it only holds about 1000 4 minute songs! An advantage to the Ipods is that you can store other things besides just music on them!

I have an iPod. It's great because I have a microphone so I can record voice memos. Plus I have well over a thousand songs on it. I recommend it. You can follow Rudey's advice and wait until the price drops to purchase it.

http://www.ipodhacks.com/

That website has all sorts of stuff about ipods. You can download programs, talk to people, get news on when people think a new ipod is coming out, etc.

The MP3 players they sell on ebay suck...now, you may be thinking "No shit Stan", but trust me, the enticement of 10 GB is enough to make you spend some dough on it.

Except they can't stand the test of time...and break/malfunction very easily. The software was also hard to manage.

I bought a sony mini disc player that uses mini floppys. They hold 35-40 songs a disk, is VERY compact (can fit in your pocket), and can take a beating.
