Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants - A Phi Style

An article about Beta Theta (GO CANADA!) in the Fraternal News (Names edited for privacy):

"Sorority's Sisterhood Like New Movie"

"The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" hits movie theatres this
Wednesday. Adapted from Ann Brashares' best selling novel, it tells
the story of four life long friends and their first summer apart
from each other. Although miles apart, they stay as close as ever,
over the summer, by sharing a special pair of jeans.

The sisterhood experienced by Carmen, Bridget, Lena and Tibby is very
similar to the sisterhood experienced by the sisters of Alpha Phi
Sorority at The University of British Colunbia. Their sorority is
made of over 30 women all with distinctly different personalities,
much like the characters in the movie.

"Above all else, Alpha Phi is about sisterhood," says President Molly
M. They focus on the development of friendship in their
collegiate years, and maintaining it throughout their lifetime. They
encourage each other to strive for the best, and support each other
through any challenges.

Sisters gather weekly for meetings, but often end up spending time
together outside of chapter activities as well. Sisterhood events
include: going out for dinner, celebrating birthdays, sleepovers,
and weekly OC nights. Also, they have annual Dessert Crawls,
Christmas parties, roadtrips, and formals. Besides being close to
their sisters at UBC, they have also met Alpha Phi sisters from
other universities in North America.

The philanthropic women of Alpha Phi have also spent the last month
collecting jeans to donate to a local charity. "I hope somebody else
can enjoy these jeans as much as I did," says Director of
Philanthropy, Meghan R. This year they won the Panhellenic
Philanthropy award with the most volunteer hours out of all the
sororities on the campus, which averaged to over 80 hours of
volunteer work per member. They view volunteering as a way of helping
others, and another way for them to spend time together.

And much like the characters in the movie, the ladies of Alpha Phi
can't wait until the summer is over so they can see everybody again.
