Saudi al Qaeda cell names new leader, Group vows to continue to fight 'jihad'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia announced Sunday that Saleh al-Oufi will replace slain leader Abdel Aziz al-Muqrin, according to the Islamist Web site where the group posts its messages.

Al-Oufi, a former prison guard, holds the number five spot on Saudi Arabia's list of 26 most wanted terrorists, although Saudi security sources told CNN that he lacks some of the operational experience of al-Muqrin, who was killed in a shoot-out with Saudi security after the murder of American hostage Paul Johnson.

Al-Muqrin's al Qaeda cell claimed responsibility for Johnson's June 12 kidnapping, then vowed on Tuesday to kill him if the Saudis did not release al Qaeda prisoners within 72 hours.

Chilling photographs of Johnson's head and body appeared Friday on the Islamist Web site Voice of Jihad. Hours later, Saudi security forces killed al-Muqrin and three other members of the cell and captured 12 more suspects.

Johnson's family remained in seclusion Sunday in New Jersey.

On the Web site Saturday, the group vowed to continue to fight "jihad" as it has "promised God," and said the killing of its "brothers" will make the group "stronger."

Saleh al-Oufi = number one with a .50-caliber bullet fired into his head from a Special Ops sniper. Alpha Mike Foxtrot, you c*cksucking terrorist!

And then on down the hit list... we will show NO mercy, we will give NO quarter, and martyrdom does NOT apply to your pathetic cause!

If he follows the lead of his recently departed associate, may he meet the same fate. Only more quickly.

JIhad-Bihad. These idiots don't even know the meaning of Jihad (Persistance). Jihad does not mean war or terror.

Optimiste,

How about Islamics?

I thought that "jihad" means "personal struggle."

thought this might help

literally, "striving" or "struggle," although it is often used in the theopolitical context of a "holy war." It must be either defensive or to right a wrongdoing. Its truer meaning is subjective and psychological, not objective and political; thus it is said that the "lesser jihad" is the external war with an agressor, while the "greater jihad" is the internal war with oneself, i.e., to be a better Muslim

U.S. threatens to abandon Saudis and their oil

SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM
Monday, June 21, 2004
The United States has sent a tough message to Saudi Arabia that did not rule out abandoning of the kingdom's oil sector.

U.S. officials said the Bush administration has warned that Americans would not stay in Saudi Arabia unless the kingdom takes significant steps to protect them. The officials said the warning came in wake of the Al Qaida execution of Lockheed Martin engineer Paul Johnson on June 18.

Fewer than 30,000 Americans live in Saudi Arabia, with many of them working in the defense and oil sectors. More than 5,000 Americans were said to have left the kingdom over the last year and many more were said to planning to leave for the summer.

"It could have an effect [on the Saudi oil industry]," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said. "Saudi authorities, as commendable as their overall effort is, have not yet been able to stop the terrorists to the point that everybody doesn't have to worry anymore."

U.S. officials said despite its assurances, the Saudi government has not carried out a comprehensive upgrade in efforts to protect U.S. nationals in the kingdom. They said many Saudi-owned companies have failed to take significant steps to protect their facilities and Americans from Al Qaida attacks.

On June 20, Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. Richard Lugar issued the most specific warning to Riyad. Lugar, a Republican close to Secretary of State Colin Powell, said that unless Saudi Arabia provides better protection to Americans "they're in deep trouble with regard to the oil business."

FBI and State Department counterterrorism experts have been in Saudi Arabia helping authorities track Al Qaida insurgents. The U.S. team was said to have been instrumental in the operation that tracked and killed Al Qaida chief Abdul Aziz Al Muqrin and three of his aides on June 18.

Your also right Russ. Jihad means the inner daily struggle of the individual.

How come more Muslims don't come out to condemn these acts?

Why aren't there protests across Arab countries against it?

-Rudey
--Perhaps they condone it...perhaps it's good to see Americans infidels suffer.

there was a letter in today's metro asking just that. it made a comment saying they don't want to be lumped in with the terrorists under one label, but they are also not coming out and condemning the acts of violence.

Cut me a break. They haven't and they won't. They support it. They support the violence. They support the murder. They often revel in it. They think the US and Israel deserve it. They often even donate money to charities that support terrorists.

And "they" refers to the general Arab community. There are outliers. There are people that do stand up and say "Hey this is wrong. This has gotten us nowhere. The UN studies on Arab culture show a region that has been retarding it development. We can no longer support violence or murder. We don't want it on our televisions. We won't send money to groups where we don't know where the money is going to and we won't support those groups that send money to terrorist groups".
