Big/Lil Sis
Hey!
Any suggestions for keeping big/lil sis identities secret? How do you all do it within your sororities or fraternities?
Thanks for the help!!
Siggie love,
Jill

One of the sisters and I text messaged every pledge and told them that we were her big sis. They remained sufficiently confused until initiation.
We always leave their gifts with the new member ed, send emails from the Phi Chi account, have other girls write notes, fill out cards, type notes, etc. We make sure that we are spending time with pledges other than just our little.

A lot of girls do journals. It's a way for a big and lil to communicate without actually seeing each other or knowing who the big is. Unless they know handwriting of course. Then the big usually passes it on to someone to give it to their lil and back and forth. A lot of girls do it and it's fun! I did this with my first little.
Also, type your messages on your computer and print them. Or say you have different features than you really do. Just don't say you like the color green when you actually hate it. Your lil may take that as a sign to get you every gift in green.

What I did for my little was I made a screenname KLPBigSis so I could talk to her online. She knows I hate writing on AIM in black Times New Roman (just a weird pet peeve) and I'm really anal abou incorrect spelling and grammar, so I always made it a point to type to her in black Times New Roman and say stuff like "how r u?" It was nice because I got to talk to her without her figuring out who I was.

Those are actually really great ideas. How did they know what to get their bigs though if they didn't know who they were? But I like your ideas! Mind if we use some?
Thanks!!

Well, usually we don't get gifts from our little sisters much - we spoil them, and might get a little something every now and then, but not much. They also give their gifts for their big to the pledge ed, who in turn gives it to us. I have to say, last year I got some really cool gifts from my little.

sorry to crash but I thought I would share my big/little experience (although at my school they call them pledge moms and pledge daughters/babies)
We have a whole week of "clues" before pledge mom revealing. Our pledge mom leaves us gifts in the Pi Phi suite (we don't have a house) with clues every day that we can pick up after 2pm. Some of the clues are true, some are lies. A lot of people go out of their way to trick you!
My pledge mom made an AIM screen name "jenspledgemom" and would IM me, but being the stalker that I am, I put a buddy alert on her and realized that she signed on when the person I thought/was hoping it was would sign off, etc. Eventually my boyfriend told her to try to mix it up a bit and that I was onto her (oops!)
The first night someone brought me pizza, soda and dessert with a card for me to guess who my pledge mom was (a tradition in my family) -- however, since most of my clues that day were lies, I guessed someone completely different. Oops!
The trickiest thing she did was deliver one of my clues herself (usually people who AREN'T your pledge mom will deliver the clues) and that really threw me off, but her other pledge daughter did the same thing to HER pledge daughter (she delivered her breakfast and tricked her big time!)
Good luck and have fun -- I can't wait till spring (we only have spring rush) because I want my own pledge baby!

We usually pass out little handouts for each the big and little. It has common info like "fav color," "hobbies," and "fav foods." The bigs usually make them general enough so anyone can be it.
But we have themed gift weeks. One week, both parties will bring baked goods, the next: flowers and a balloon, the next: candy or whatever. The bigs can go all out but usually the lils are kept at a $10 max each week or so. This way no one goes broke.
