How do you fix this?
I need some advice on dogs.
I have a dog and two cats, that alone is a crazy house. Anyways, my dog is trained to go outside and when my hubby and I are not home he holds it pretty well, if he has to go he goes on papers in the basement.
Anyways, when he gets mad at us lately if we yell at him or smack him or scold him or anything, he gets revenge and that is peeing on my hubbys pillow or peeing on the bed in general. This has happened now 2 in this week. Once he chewed something up of my hubbys so he yelled and the dog peed on his pillow. Tonight we decided to give him a bath before we went home to see the parents this weekend. Now my dog HATES the bath. He hates it so much I went to get him and he somehow knew and started to bark very mean and hes never like that. Then he got mad when we put him in the tub. I went to lay down a few minutes ago to read some in bed and he peed on the bed.
The hubby yells at him but I think it makes the dog more mad when we do that. Its like we have no control over him getting revenge on us. Im afraid if I yell at him for something, hell pee on my pillow. Any advice? We need something to do. He knows this is bad cause when we come in the room he hides, and we rub his nose in it and say no but it doesnt seem to get him to stop.

Rub his nose in it? I'd probably shave him too.

How old is your dog?
What breed is it?
Maybe it is time for you to see Dr. Dog? Your dog's behavioral problem could be due to some level of miscommunication between you and your husband's commands and what the dog understands.
Basically, your voice is raised whenever you command him. Do you think your dog can tell the difference in human anger? Maybe he thinks your playing a game with him when he pee-pees on the carpet, then hides...
You need another tatic that cannot be misconstrued in training...
I don't know how that can be done, but I can ask several of the vets I work with to give me an idea...
As far as washing him, maybe you need to take him to a groomer???

First off hitting the dog NEVER helps. It only makes him afraid of you and not want to be around you.
It sounds as though you're not spending enough time with him and that's his way of getting attention.

I'm not a Vet, but it sounds like he has some seperation anxiety. He's doing the bad behavior to get back at you for not being around, and then you yell, so he does another bad behavior (this one even worse). My dog does this, but without the peeing after we yell. I know what you mean about the slinking and crouching, my dog does this when he knows he's been caught in the act - not because he has been or is going to be hit. He just knows he wasn't supposed to do it and did it anyway
Anyway, most vets have a behavioralist (sp?) that they work with. It would probably be worth the money. We got a private trainer that also dealt with behavior (6 weeks, $45/session) it was worth it. Also, you could look into doggy daycare once or twice a week, in ATL it's about $20/day (we do this too).

I've always found water bottles to be particularly convincing to animals -- and the greatest thing about water bottles is that they tend to associate getting squirted with the behavior and not with you.
