Windowless airconditioners

Does anyone own a windowless airconditioner? The reason I ask is because I live in a basement apartment in a private home.

Because my apt. is partially above ground with an outside entrance, it gets pretty hot in the summer months.

I have seen these air conditioners on line but they seem pretty pricey ($700+++).

I am looking for feedback on if they work well. Also my mom said she heard that you need to have some kind of area to drain them in, like a dehumidifier.

I don't mind spending the $$$ if they work and also because I have a doggy now I don't want him to be stuck in the heat.
