The Good News/Things Thread

With the war going on and some people being depressed, I just wanted to share some good news! Ya'll add your own good news or something good that's happened recently to you or someone you know.

I grew up with this guy named Tim and he has a younger brother named Brandon. Tim is one year older than me even though we graduated together (he was held back a year in elementary school). Brandon is 2 years younger than me and 3 years younger than Tim. Well, in August or September, 2003, Brandon, he'll be 21 this year (2004), found out he had Hodgekins Lymphoma, which usually is the one that responds well to treatment. His did not AT ALL! He went through heavy doses of Chemo Therapy and Radiation for several months. Nothing worked to rid him of cancer.

Finally, in March, 2004, he went through a stem cell transplant. They used his own stem cells and killed off his immune system to do the transplant. He was sent home a couple of days later. Three days later, he ended up back in the hospital because his esophogus was raw and covered with blisters from the top of his throat to the end of the esophogus. Brandon was in so much pain, he was given heavy doses of Morphine. Well, the blisters went away and he was sent home.

Two weeks after the stem cell transplant, Brandon was walking 2 miles EVERYDAY! Woohoo!

Finally the best news of all! Last week, he had a body scan and Brandon is cancer-free!

My eldest niece, Leslie Marie graduates from high school Sunday.

In about an hour, I'll be attending a ceremony for two more cousins, and tomorrow will have two ceremonies for 6 more cousins!

I remember each day these kids were born and holding them when they were babies. I can't believe they're graduating -- most going off to college and two enlisting in the Armed Forces...

Auntie Sandy is getting OLD.
