For things I need right away.
Never for things I can take my time with.
Sorry, I'm a boy thats the best I can do. I should get points for playing.

I'll pay full retail for: anything new by Cheap Trick, JIF peanut butter and Diet Coke.
I'll never pay retail for: shoes or handbags, because the fun is finding the perfect shoe or bag on sale!

I'm embarassed to admit that I'll pay retail for just about anything if I want it. Although, it's not like I'll turn down something because it's on sale!

Me too. I have had people call me snobby because I've said before that I really don't like to shop sales. Now, if I am lucky enough to find something I love that is discounted, I would be happy! But most of the time... stuff is on sale for a reason! I do not have the patience to weed through ugly clothes to find one "treasure". Particularly in my favorite stores, if I wanted it THAT badly, I would have already purchased it at full price when it first came out.
But to go along with the question format:
I'll always pay retail for underwear (the "stuff is on sale for a reason" is PARTICULARLY true in this case), but never CDs (burn my own).

I love to shop too. I love finding cool things on sale but one of my biggest annoyances in life are discount stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I cannot stand when things are thrown all over the place and you have to hunt through piles of stuff to find things. And then deal with crowds of mothers with their winey kids running around the stores. I think this is a NYC-metro area thing though that these stores are not as nice. My family lives in upstate rural NY and the TJ Maxx up there is pretty decent. What are your favorite stores? I am an Old Navy addict. I shop there at least once a week. I also go to Target (Tar-zhay) at least twice a week too. One of my friend's gave me an H&M gift certificate for graduation so I am looking forward to spending that. When are your favorite times to shop? Right now I have Sun & Mon off from work and I love having Monday's off because the malls and stores are so dead. But my schedule is changing in 2 weeks with my new job so I guess I will have to deal with the crowds on weekends (Ugh). Allison

Off the top of my head:
I'll pay retail for anything I need right now.
I'll never pay retail for computers or computer parts (thank you pricewatch.com)

I agree with Thrillhouse. You know how many books I've bought for school that I never read!!!! It is positively disgusting.

Nope, it's 2004 and Cheap Trick is still alive and well. They're currently on tour with Aerosmith, and the new DVD comes out June 15th (and it should be on my doorstep that very day!)

My mama told me, "You better shop around."
I love shopping sales for clothes because nothing's better than getting something good for way cheap, but I will always lay out extra cash for makeup. I'll buy eyeshadow and stuff at the drugstore, but when it comes to foundation and that sort of thing, I go to the makeup counters. There's just no comparison.

I think you're an idiot if you go to a traditional "record store" in the mall and pay $19.99 for a cd. Best Buy and Circuit City are on every corner and the internet for a reason...even with old cds, I've never had to pay more than 15 for one at their stores. (That's another thing..I always pay for cds, at least something, b/c downloading is stealing. Really though.)
With things like coats, nice suits, aka staples in your wardrobe, not only will I pay retail but I'll pay expensive retail. A Trina Turk suit for $400 is well worth it since I'll wear it for the next 5 years and it will never fall apart or go out of style.
Aside from wardrobe basics, I never pay retail. There are too many sales/discounts I can get either from former employment, friends, or using certain credit cards. Getting a sale isn't really about the merchandise being crap...rather being in the right place at the right time. From working in retail, I've learned that at most department stores the full price life cycle of a garment is about 4-5 weeks. After that it will be full-sale or clearance. Seriously, if you think there's something wrong with a shirt because it's 4 weeks old, you're probably paying wayyyyy too much for your clothes.
