Question Pillows?

Does everyone else have Bigs give their Lils pillows? We're finally starting to do that this year because enough girls in my pledge class wanted them and never got 'em. Basically, I just don't think that our colony members had a lot of contact with the other Greek chapters on our campus...but we're starting the pillow thing in my chapter now.

We do the pillow thing in my chapter, but it is the littles who make the pillows for the bigs. We then have a Big/Little II where the littles present their bigs with their pillow and we exchange other little gifts. It is usually our last get together of the semester.

Hey, we don't do pillows, could you explain that to me? Do y'all do the family hat trees? We decorate pillow cases at our pledge retreats but that is about it, nothing about bigs and littles and pillow cases.

I don't know what family hat trees are. As for pillows, they are anything that the little wants to make. Most just get a throw pillow from the store and decorate it, but you could go as far as making it if you want to. Most of ours are just decorated with puffy paint they generally include big's name, little's name, AXiD, chapter name, semester that you pledged and any other decoration you want to add. I happened to have a stencil of a rose, so I put some pink roses on mine. Some of my pledge sisters got creative with theirs and found pillows of their family animal to decorate and some sewed letters on theirs. Basically, anything goes. It is just a little token of appreciation for you Big and everything that she did for you during your pledge semester. We also make paddle shaped plaques for our Bigs for this day. Both of these are just our chapter traditions. I get my stuff this Thursday evening, so I get to see how creative my little is. I can't wait.

I hope I explained all of that well. I'm working on only a few hours of sleep right now. Ahh...what the end of the semester does to a procrastinator

Xi Love,
Mindy

On this campus, it is the Bigs that make the Lils pillows. And in the other sororities, the Lil sisters make the Bigs paddles, but we were told that we couldn't do that because it signifies hazing. Other Alpha Xi chapters do it???

We're not allowed to have paddles at the gamma lambda chapter. I'm not sure if it's in the national bylaws, or just a few chapters. I really want a paddle!!!

I know that the Iota Alpha chapter at George Mason dosn't do paddles either. I wonder if it part of national by laws....

Somewhere posted in the national bylaws or code of conduct, it states we can't have paddles b/c it signifies hazing. Too bad. Because I think everyone wants a paddle anyways.

Ladies, there is a difference between a plaque and a paddle. You CAN have a plaque, with all the stuff you "would have" put on the paddle. The plaque can be any shape you want, as long as it does not have a handle on it. Square, retangular, teddy bear shaped, whatever - any shape that does not have a handle on it is acceptable.
