Angry Mother LOCKED Daughter inside Washing Machine

LibraSoul hipped me to this news this morning while GC was offline.

Girl rescued from washing machine
Monday, May 26, 2003 Posted: 2:53 AM EDT (0653 GMT)

POMONA, California (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl was rescued from a locked, running washer at a coin laundry and her mother was arrested after a surveillance tape allegedly showed her putting the child into the machine, police said.

An officer smashed the window of the machine with his baton to rescue the girl, who was "submerged in water," police Sgt. Matt Stone said.

The child was unconscious when she was pulled from the washer Saturday but breathing. She was taken to a hospital where she was listed in serious condition with cuts, scrapes, bruises. She had inhaled some water but was expected to survive, Stone said.

Her mother, Erma Osborne, 35, of Pomona, California, later was arrested for investigation of child endangerment and held on $10,000 bail.

Surveillance camera footage showed that the woman placed her daughter in one washer, then removed her and placed her in a second front-loading washer, which turned on when she closed the door, Stone said.

"She wasn't drowned but she was getting there," Los Angeles County fire Capt. Dan Ramirez said.

The machine apparently locks automatically when the wash cycle begins and does not unlock until the cycle ends, Ramirez said.

Efforts by the girl's mother and bystanders to unlock the door failed.

That is just terrible. I can't watch that video. It would be too upsetting. Poor little baby girl.

What is the world coming to?

I just caught this on CNN and that mother shouldn't be in jail, somebody needs to put her UNDER the jail. That's a shame! I'm glad the little girl is ok though.

May the mother be locked up with Big Bertha and become her. . .

Hell, in jail, they should give her laundry duty, I bet you she experiences what her daughter did.

There is a code of ethics in jail.

Mother of girl in washing machine charged
California woman in custody; child still in hospital
Tuesday, May 27, 2003 Posted: 11:01 PM EDT (0301 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A mother accused of placing her 2-year-old daughter in a washing machine and turning it on was charged with felony child endangerment Tuesday and is being held on $50,000 bail, authorities said.

Sgt. Joann Crabb of the Pomona Police Department said officers responded Saturday to a report of a child stuck in a washing machine at a laundromat.

Upon discovering the child trapped inside the commercial washer, Crabb said, police had to break the machine's front glass to extricate the child from the washer, which was filled with water.

According to an Associated Press report, surveillance camera footage showed that the woman, Erma Osborne, placed her daughter in one washer, then removed her and placed her in a second front-loading washer, which turned on when she closed the door.

The child was unconscious when she was pulled from the washer but breathing, the AP said.

Osborne, a 35-year-old resident of Pomona, California, was arrested at the site, and her daughter was taken to the intensive care unit of Children's Hospital in Orange County, where she received stitches in her arms and legs.

Osborne is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Pomona Superior Court on the felony count. Her daughter remains in the hospital, authorities said.

Took the words right outta my mouth. My friend brought up the point that the broad would have had to have got change and actually insert quarters in the thing to turn it on. But here it says it came on by itself. But why did she switch machines?????????????? WTH?????

The mother would have had to insert quarters into that machine. Why she switched from one machine to another is uncertain, but what is certain is that she had to have put money in the machine, then put her daughter in it, shut the door, and pressed the start cycle button.
