Strange Performance by Jewel

HAMPTON - Gloria Dion wants her money back after being subjected to what she calls the worst Jewel concert ever.

Dion, along with her two daughters Nicole and Kaitlin, went to last Saturday’s 8 p.m. Jewel concert at the Hampton Beach Ballroom Casino. The singer performed two concerts that evening at the Casino. People who saw the first said Jewel was at the top of her game and said it was a "rocking show."

Those who had tickets to the second show saw something quite different, according to Dion.

"People were literally walking out of the show," she said. "As soon as she came out, she began to insult us. We thought she was joking at first because it was kind of weird."

Witnesses said Jewel went on a tirade of insults from poking fun at fat people to others with no teeth. At one point, she asked the audience to yell requests and then told them to "shut the hell up."

"I saw her live in Boston and it was the greatest show I’ve ever been to," Dion said. "I don’t know if she was having a nervous breakdown or what. She told everyone to stop looking at her teeth and look at her breasts."

Jewel was on stage for about an hour and played only four to five songs. Halfway through the show, Dion said Jewel began to talk about Zoloft and Paxil for about 10 minutes.

"I don’t know what that was all about," said Nicole Dion, who came from Canada to see the show. "I don’t know if she was on it or what. Maybe she didn’t take it."

Dion said Jewel stopped in the middle of her trademark song, "Who will save your soul," because everyone was singing along. "She said, ‘I would have never guessed you all know the words.’ I don’t know if she was kidding or what."

As if Jewel can comment on people's teeth!!!

She's been on my doodoo list since she dissed the Alaska State Fair a few years ago. Don't use being an Alaskan as a selling point, then forget where you came from. I also had to see a picture of her grandfather regularly as it was hanging in a University building.

BOO

I really feel that sometimes musicians don't get it.

I udnerstand they may be frustrated sometimes because they can't do the shows they want to, but they need to suck it up and perform or refund the fans their money.

My friend told me a story about Canadian singer Chantal Kreviazuk who was opening for another performer (can't remeber who she said it was). Well the fans were a little rowdy during her performance because no one in the audience was there to see her.
Apparently she stopped in the middle of one of her songs and started bithcing out the audience because they were not paying attention to her favourite song that was of so much importance to her.

UnfortunThe fans are the ones that buy the albums and pay to see their concerts. If you don't have fans you don't have a career. So sometimes you have to suck it up and give the fans what they want.

I think Jewels managment should refund the money.

Something musicians don't realize is that it's about the fans, not themselves. They get a little self-centered.

I played in a band for a bit.. Part of the reason we broke up was the front man was suffering from a very common illness to frontment -- lead singer syndrome. Characterized by a massive swelling of the ego.

Wow, that's really sad to hear. I've always been a fan of her music.

ktsnake-very familiar with that syndrome. It's usually fatal.

ditto, moe.ron. Maybe she got some bad news in between performances, or maybe she was off her medication.

Mental illness is real.

WHOA! That is so not like her! I am a big Jewel fan and am going to see her for the 5th (would be 6th if her last concert wasn't cancelled when her bassist died) time On July 16 in Cleveland!! Her last concert was laid back and she did tell some stories and jokes...but it did not reflect on her performance overall!! Although she did forget the words to one of her older songs while in the middle of singing it...but it was humorous to us!! I will update after I go in July!

I saw her once in concert when she was opening for someone else and I thought she was amazing - better than the headlining act even!

I would never have thought that about her. I'm not a big Jewel fan by any means, but everything I've heard and read about her made her seem so laid-back...wow.

She's revamped her image and the fact that her bassist died leads me to believe something's going on. I'm not excusing her but fame takes a toll on people. Still, it was bitchy of her and I hope she learns to behave better.
