A teenager was killed, a man was wounded and a car full of young women was sprayed with bullets during shootings outside a fraternity event at a downtown banquet hall, police said.

I just saw this in the news! Its terrible!
I wonder who is responsible for the shooting? From what I gathered it wasn't anyone involved w/ the fraternity, but now the shootings are going to be associated to Greek Life!

Yeah, I was wondering that too. I thought maybe I should post it in the News forum instead since it doesn't sound like it's necessarily associated with APA, but I decided to post it here since they were named in the article. It is a shame that, even if no Greeks were involved, this will be added to the long list of bad things that happen with Greeks.

A Greek Organization is sponsoring a party that gets to crowded because of rules and people get upset to the point that something this tradgic happens.

While it was sponosored by Greek Organizations, it really sounds like some people were mad they could not enter. But assualt rifles? That is a bit way over the top!

I hope that The APhiA do not get sanctioned for soemthing that they had no control over.

It made the front page of the Metro section of the Dallas Morning News with a teaser on page 1. The headline did read "Shooting at Fraternity Dance" although it seemed more like a public dance. Why else would a HS junior be there?

Wednesday against Eddie Deen's Ranch and Alpha Phi
Alpha fraternity. Mr. Malone had gone with friends to
Eddie Deen's Ranch at 933. S. Lamar for a
fraternity-sponsored party billed as Ice Storm II. The
suit alleges that the fraternity and facility managers
were negligent in not stopping the party after earlier
reports of violence and in failing to provide
sufficient guards or off-duty police officers, better
lighting and more vehicle exits.

The law is strange in many ways, but it seems like a real stretch to hold the fraternity liable for a crowd on a street outside a third party vendor.

It also sounds like the vendor and the chapters made a good faith effort to control the party and the crowd allowed inside.

We may not know the whole story, but what more could they do?

I mean, I empathize with the parents of this boy, but like DeltAlum said...it's a bit of a stretch to try and hold the fraternity responsible. If anything, they were doing the RIGHT thing by not letting an underage individual into a party where alcohol was being consumed. In another article I read, they said that the young man was not gunned down in front of the club, but a little ways off. Doesn't this city impose a curfew anyway? Shouldn't the mother have any responsibility for her child being out in the streets at such a time as this? I dunno, I just think it is an unfortunate situation all around, but trying to find blame where there is none is not going to ease her pain.

Co-sign. I suspect that someone gave her the idea for a lawsuit, and she wants to make someone hurt like she's hurting. $31 million will not bring her son back.
