Schoolboy expelled for throwing a pie
Quote:
Schoolboy expelled for throwing a pie
A schoolboy in Ohio was expelled from Ottawa County's Danbury high school for 80 days for throwing a pie at the school principle.
The incident took place during a school sponsored pie throwing contest in which the students were encouraged to pay 50c to throw pies at teachers and staff they did not like.
The principle got a pie in the face and decided to report the incident to the police and expel the student, who had no prior discipline problems and a GPA of 3.5. The fifteen year old may now face charges.

This is messed up considering that it is a school sponsored contest.

There's really got to be something to this incident that didn't make it into the newspaper article. I'm curious to know what happened.

eh?
unless the pie was laced with sionide (sp?) and razorblades, why expel someone over a school sponsored event? the principle knew what she was getting herself into... right?
something is missing...

That's pretty harsh for a school sponsored event where the principal was a willing participant...
or was she/he?
I have to agree, we're not getting the whole story.

If there's nothing else to it, that principal probably just made one of her dumbest career moves ever. Anytime you get publicity like this for being heavy-handed, etc., it's not a good thing.
Watch for the kid to be back in school sometime soon.

My only guess is maybe the kid threw the pie in a way that could have seriously injured her. Even still, 80 days is far too draconian. There were two kids at my high school that got caught having sex in the auditorium that only got 10 days. I hope his parents file suit.

I don't get it. It was a school sponsored event, the kid threw a pie at the principal and still got expelled for it! Didn't the principal know that she could be a target of students tossing pies at teachers and the principal. The punishment was indeed draconian and ridiculous!

I got the impression that while "students were encouraged to pay 50c to throw pies at teachers and staff they did not like", that was not generally; just those staff who had agreed to participate.
From the article it sounded like say some staff we sitting in chairs in a line wearing old clothes or something for the sponsored event and the principle was standing to the side somewhere wearing his/her suit and just there to supervise and the student knew this.
Regardless, 80 days suspension is still excessive.

It's sad that only a few years ago, a people could have sex during lunch break in the music room and not get caught, and now people get expelled over this mess....

Unless the principal didn't think someone would actually target her when she signed up to participate...then when she was she realized it wasn't something she wanted to do. I don't know. This is pretty stupid!
