Fraternity Summer Recruitment
Right now our brotherhood is lacking somewhat in numberes, and after this next year over half of it will be graduating. This summer I will be living in the house and taking summer courses, and I wondered if anyone knew of any effective ways to recruit new members in the summer. There will only be like 10-15 of our active here, so its hard to do a lot with such low numbers. Any ideas on how to get new guys would be grealy appreciated. Thanks

things that work for us:
volunteer to help at new student orientation. plant the seed in the heads of the incoming freshmen. offer to give them tours of campus and make sure one of the stops is your house.
make sure your local brothers talk to kids they went to high school with. they're your best summer rush tools.
have informal rush events, like cookouts or pick-up football games, for the non-freshmen recruits.
if Penn St. has a full-time newspaper over the summer, take out a small ad. they usually give discounts to student organizations. parents love reading the campus newspaper when they are around for orientation and as you know, rushing the parent is just as important as rushing the student
...also, talk to the AGR's here in Raleigh. They're our next door neighbors and they have a strong chapter. Maybe they can lend some more advice.

No suggestions here, but there should be a way to capitalize on your great on campus location (especially now that you're one of 3, with Phi Delt gone)

Yikes! I was thinking of Alpha Zeta - the other Ag fraternity on campus, which IS on Burrowes Road. Sorry!
The AGR house has a good location too, though, and is a great looking house -- I think we rented it once for a formal (one of the downsides of sororities being located in the dorms)

Actually we really aren't Ag at all, we just are nationally Ag but we have like 4 brothers who are Ag majors.

Perhaps the best way to recruit people is to have standards. For example, try recruiting memebers who can spell numbers instead of "numberes".
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I wasn't trying to be rude.
Just remember, there is no one great event that brings people to a group. Anything your fraternity wants to do can be a great rush tool. Just be sure your guys are committed to it.
