Inanity at its best!
UW, IFC talking recognition with DKE
By Brian Turner
May 19, 2004
The UW administration expected it six years ago.
However, in February of this year, UW alumnus Matthew Strain visited the
fourth floor of Schmitz Hall to deliver a letter six years in the making.
In seven sentences, the letter references a suicide, a brutish initiation
ritual and a fraternity's desire to regain the respect of its peers.
The letter, however, does not include the word "hazing."
Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) is struggling to recover from the fallout of a
member's suicide, the suspicion that surrounded it and a wrongful-death
lawsuit.
Because of hazing, the UW severed in 1998 the ties DKE now wants to restore.
The brunt of the hazing took part during a six-day initiation ritual known
as "hell week."
Wow, talk about a little late! How often does a Chapter change its Officers and Members!
