So What's Up With the Ryder Cup?

Yet again, Sam Ryder's Cup stays in Europe. Why can't the Americans seem to find the formula to get it back? The US team hasn't won it since 1999, and it took a huge comeback that day (8.5 points on Sunday) to pull it out.

I think they just don't bring enough passion and intensity to the contest.

...other opinions?

Uh, Europe fields a better team (as opposed to the US team simply having the two best players)?

Europe doesn't waste its captain's picks on worthless bottom-of-the-standings "character guys"?

I think the Europeans were deeper 1 through 12, but don't think it hinged on the US captain's picks or their "character." Those picks, (Verplank and Cink) along with Tiger were the only US players to capture full points on Sunday, with both Verplank and Cink scoring lopsided 4 &3 wins.

Saturday Cink was 0-1-1 and Verplank got a half pt.

I think several of the American "stars," Mickelson, Toms, Furyk needed to play better. Tiger found his stride in the Saturday afternoon alternate shot, and played better on Sunday, but he, too, needed to do more than he did.

Maybe the US side will "trick-up" Valhalla for 2008 and fare beter.
