Cool How would...

the following events impact you? What would you do?

1. If all of the states of Africa united and became THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, with a senate and congress.

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.

1. I would suddenly feel REAL inadequate on the wrong side of the ocean.

2. I'm not sure how I would deal with a depression situation. I really don't.

3. I know this is irresponsible, but I would probably spend it on something frivolous. I'd rather spend it on something I want than paying it right back to the government (student loans).

4. I wouldn't accept the Presidency....not something that interests me. Or maybe I would set it up so that I could abdicate and ensure that the person I want to lead the country wins.

5. I would rather die poor knowing that I cure everybody of AIDS and cancer than having my heirs be well off at the expense of other people's lives.

That's what's up. All of the countries in African uniting to become one powerful economic and social force. I'd probably make the trip just to see it in action with my own eyes.

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

All my life, I been po.... j/p. I'd find a way to survive.

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000

I would start another business that would be a benefit to the African American community and hopefully would provide some jobs (hey, it's never too late to get into Black Enterprise).

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

Hmm... lets see.
My running mate: Russell Simmons
Secretary of State: Federico Pena maybe
Surgen General: Dr. Benjamin Carson
Secretary of Literature: Alice Walker

I can't think of others but I'd make sure that I found something for Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Kwesi MFume to do. As far as policies I would implement, I would have to get back with you on that.

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.
I'd find a way to make it available to everyone. I wouldn't sell it to someone who I know would not use it. There are some things in life that are more important than money and LIFE is one of them.

1. Would rejoice in the economic impact the African land would have on teh rest of the world.

2. Make sure as always that money is under the matress

3. Invest 75% that money in my chapter's youth programs and pay off a student loan.

4. Would not want to be president(has no real power) I would want to be a sentor in charge of a strong influencing committee.

5. Would die poor and give it out to the world

I really don't know. I don't know much about Africa and the whole pan-African movement. I think I'll have to research and get back to this one....

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

Lord, help me. I HONESTLY don't know what I would do. I don't think that I would be able to handle that kind of situation. That's something else to think about....

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000

I would use that as seed money to set up a community center for African-American youth. Of course, the doors would be open to all races, but I want to help African-American youth narrow the "digital divide," as well learn how to grow as a people, instead of just taking everyhting at face value.

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

Oh, my! Where would I start? I would humbly ACCEPT the task. Even though I KNOW it is a HUGE job, I would like the opportunity to know what it is like. Like everyone says, a job looks so easy when you are on the outside looking in, but it really could be a killer once you do it yourself.

I want to help the poor and impoverished in OUR country. I want to help ALL of the minority groups that are being IGNORED in this country. I want to devote more funding to EDUCATION, instead of frivolous wars, etc. Oh, the list can go on for days....

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.

There is NO amount of money that can EVER be offered to me if the cures can't help EVERYONE. As a person who has had family members and friends die from cancer/leukemia, I can't imagine myself having the cure and knowing that someone may not be treated. I wish that I had the cure in my hands right now so that not one more person would have to go through it. I would rather die poor and know that I can help each and every person, than to be rich and have to face judgement for my selfishness and greed.

And to be honest, $100 million is HARDLY enough money for the impact that these cures would have on the world....

I don't know.

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

Just try to survive.

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000.

I would hope that I can urge people to not spend it, because $15,000 is a lot of money, but not enough to replace what our ancestors went through.

Realistically though I might spend it on something I don't need.

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

I would choose a vice president, who I would hope can run this country. Then resign so he can be president. Then I would look at how I can recieve retirement.

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.
I know there are other companies that would gladly pay me and distribute it to the world.

I can respect four and five alot man, and I see number three in a whole new light. I still think it would be nice if everyone pulled their resources together and invested money in the black community to further build the black community, but I do agree that $15,000 is not near enough for reparations. However, it is a start (not a big start but A start) in acknowledging their error and I think that if planned effectively, collectively, we could turn the $$$ into alot more.

Your right it is a start, and if we did the right thing with it. We could then go the direction that everyone before us was trying to go.

1. I need to do more research.

2. I would survive, Don't know how I would do it, but I would.

3. I know it is wrong, but I would pay my student loans off with that. So when it all comes down to it, I would be giving it back to the government.

4. I would take the job. I know it is a BIG responsibly, but someone has to do it. I invite the challenge. First, revamp the financial aid system. One, all shools should be equal amount of financial aid from the governement. No matter if you go to an HBCU or a non-HBCU ( I graduated from a non-HBCU) an education is an education, period. Two, There is no reason that students need to start out with that much debt out of college. That is so said. Some people will be paying loans off there whole life. Then focus on the minority communities.

5. I would love to be poor and broke by giving the cure to everybody. I saw a family member die of AIDS and it still sticks with me today, no one should suffer like that. So I rather be flat broke, homeless, so millions can live there lives.

Re: How would...

1. If all of the states of Africa united and became THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, with a senate and congress.

I'd be happy for them and hope that the new government lasted.

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

I'd try to invest my money in the companies that had the strength and value to withstand the depression until the economy recovered. I'd try to but Microsoft, Coca-Cola, or some other blue chip at rock bottom prices.

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000

I'd be so excited to know that 300 years of my ancestors enslavement and the blood, sweat and tears of my people that built this country are only worth $15,000. Thanks, Uncle Sam!!! This is the best present ever!!!

Actually, I'd probably invest the money, most likely in real estate.

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

I'd try to even out the disparities between the haves and have nots.

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.

I would go public with my cures and definitely put that pharmaceutical company on blast. I'd probably try to sue the company for all that they're worth.

1. WAY too big. It's a tight idea though. I might buy a house in Ghana or Liberia (I'm assuming the strife there would have ended, God willing)

2. Pray

3. Invest in for (God willing) my future children's college fund

4. I'd thank God and get to business of making sure this country wasn't still trying to dominate EVERYONE

5. I'd patent the formula to protect it from someone else stealing it then post it free on the internet for every medical facility to have. Then get a book and movie deal for $200 million and tell the parmeceutical company just what they can kiss

1) I'd say that someone did a whole heap of diplomatic work to get countries to relinquish their status as a nation to submit to the will of a larger governing body. I'd also hope and pray that democracy works better for them than for us.

2) I'd hope that I saw it coming and cashed out by stocks and bonds. If I didn't have advance warning then I'd move to my grandmothers farm and live with her. I would start growing crops again and buy some animals from her neighbors until the depression was over.

3) I'd respond like Lil Jon, WWWWHHHHAAATTT. Cuz clearly they've forgotten to add interest. I'd hope that a prominent Black American would have developed an economic plan where we could use our money collectively to build an industry that we could control and our $15,000 check would give us a share.

4) I'd focus all of my energy and resources on making the US a better country. Diplomatically I'd let the rest of the world stand on their own two feet and let the chips fall where they may.

5) First stop patent office.

Second stop Kinko's.

Third stop Post Office to mail the formula to every non profit, charitable or indepenpendent medical research organization that I could find and give them first dibs.

Fourth stop home to make a website clearly detailing the formula.

Fifth stop to the graves of my relatives taken by cancer to tell them we did it, NO ONE else has to suffer anymore.

1. If all of the states of Africa united and became THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, with a senate and congress.

Assuming I had U.S. control, convene a summit with legitimate western alligned nations to determine points of common interest---not to bogart their political/economic system, but to determine common points of interest.

2. If the economy got so bad that we entered into a depression like the one in 1929.

I don't know. If it was as bad as it was in '29, I'm guessing personal investment wouldn't do much good because there would be so few people to buy/sell with...

3. If you received a check in the mail from the US government paying you for reparations, and the amount was a flat amount of $15,000

(a) Tithe, (b) feed my investments, (c) support my grandfather's housing foundation that helps low-income people complete the purchase of their first homes. ...(d) call Nia L. and tell her she got one last chance to come on make this thang right.

4. If YOU were elected president after a major overhaul of our present electoral college.

If I had a working Congressional majority of my party I'd tackle health care reform, because its present mismanagement hinders the government's ability to fund other vitally needed initiatives.

If I didn't have a working majority ....
(a) I'd paint the White House black,
(b) make "One Nation Under a Groove" the national anthem
(c) call certain Supreme Court members down to Camp David for a little "sit-down,"
(d) install key members of GreekChat into my presidential cabinet.

5. If YOU discovered by accident a cure for cancer, aids and lukemia; but you were tempted to sell this cure for $100million dollars to a pharmeceutical company that would not use it--on EVERYBODY that needed it.

I'd take most of laidbackfella's answer. It's as good as anything I could come up with.
