Maybe he was trying to teach the kid a lesson -- performance is what should get you ahead in sports, not whining. For all we know, this kid deserved this award.

What has the kid learned instead? He whines, his parents whine, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and kiddo wins. Kid's in store for a hell of a wake up call when he has to hold down a job and pay bills.

I agree w/ ktsnake.

I'm all about guys expressing their feelings, but not to a point where they get the title of 'crybaby'. Especially at that age. I think people are being too sensitive...again. I hope the coach doesn't get punished too harshly.

I hope the coach gets what he deserves as well. This wasn't a locker room rant, but a deliberate attempt to publically embarass the child in front of others.

If this was his attempt at a "gag" or joke award, he went about it all wrong.

What saddens me is that this man was a special education teacher!

Boys Don't Cry

IIRC It wasn't clear that the pupil was a special ed student. Just that the teacher was a special ed teacher but may've coached just generally.

No I totally disagree. Have you ever coached kids?

As a coach. If I have a player with a bad attitude, you take him/her aside and explain that his or her behaviour will not be tolerated. You also talk to the parents. You let the kid know that if the behaviour continues he or she will not be allowed to continue to play on the team.
No kid deserves to be humilated in public like that.

The father is also not whining. He has said that he will let the school board serve what ever punishment they see fit. While I agree that firing him is not the appropriate punishment, he is not fit to coach kids, because this coach also has a bad attitude.
At this age, kids are still learning and developing skills. This also includes attitude. Any kid with a bad attitude does not play. That's how you teach him a lesson.

This kid deserves his trophy and certificate. You don't give out something to the entire team and exclude one kid. It's just not done.
