***Quote that sums up who you are***

Quote:
"Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself? and especially to feel. Or not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what real love amounts to? letting a person be what he really is....Most people love you for who you pretend to be....To keep their love, you keep pretending? performing. You get to love your pretense....It's true, we're locked in an image, an act? and the sad thing is, people get so used to their image? they grow attached to their masks. They love their chains. They forget all about who they really are. And if you try to remind them, they hate you for it? they feel like you're trying to steal their most precious possession."

"Some people measure their lives in pulse rates and sit-ups. Far better to measure yours in licks of ice cream, well-told jokes, mad dashes to be first in the water, belly laughs. And, when you die, it won't be an erratic shift in your heart rate, it will be an overdose of mirth, fun poisoning, death by laughter."
-ad for Keds

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope and that enables you to laugh at life's realities. "
-Dr. Seuss

"Always behave like a duck - keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath."
-Jacob Braude

"All your life you are told the things you cannot do.. all your life they will say you're not good enough.. or strong enough.. or talented enough.. they'll say you're the wrong height.. or the wrong type.. to play this.. or be this.. or achieve this.. they will tell you no a thousand times.. no until every no just becomes meaningless.. all your life they will tell you no.. quite firmly and very quickly.. they will tell you no.. and you will tell them yes."

"Persistence. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genuis will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
-Calvin Coolidge
President of the United States 1924-29
Member of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, Amherst College Class of 1894

Also, Rudyard Kipling's "IF"
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.
-Martha Washington

Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away and a sunny spirit takes their place.
-Mark Twain

Love the ones you can. Touch the ones you can reach. Let the others go.

That's almost identical to what Paul says in the book of Philippians (which I love so much and willingly cosign!).

"He who is not busy being born is busy dying" Bob Dylan

"Rejoice in the Lord always, and Again, I say, Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4

and many more that I can't think of right now...

Ok, this was my fav poem as a senior in high school. I re-read it today and it made a lot of sense to me.

Comes the Dawn

After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
ANd you learn that love doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
ANd presents aren' t promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open.
With the grace of maturity not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on Today
Because tomorrow's ground
Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have
A way of falling, down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine
Burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate
Your own soul, instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
That you really are strong,
And you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn and learn....
With every goodbye you learn.
~author unknown~

Okay, but my big quote right is:
"...after all this kind of fanfare, and even more, I came to a point where I needed solitude and just stop the machine of 'thinking' and 'enjoying' what they call 'living', I just wanted to lie in the grass and look at the clouds..." ~ Jack Kerouac
