Question

No answers

It sounds like the Chapter was in trouble, need a house cleaning, or a rebuild up by the National to work with them to get numbers up.

Out with the problems that existed and get new blood in to rejuvinate the Organization.

Just my guess!

Each organization may have a different word for this.

Basically (my guess) it sounds like the chapter is "recolonizing" without "closing". For whatever reason (low numbers, mismanagement, rule violations, etc.) the chapter is being rebuilt from the ground up. National Staff could be "cleaning house" , maybe leaving a few members, maybe none, and recruiting an entirely new group of women to run the chapter. Much the same way a new colony starts....staff and advisers would probably be responsible for educating the new members and teaching them how to run the chapter.

I was involved in something similar last year with a chapter, so that's what it sounds like to me. Each situation is done differently, however.

I believe that they have had low numbers for a while now. The Greek System at my school is not very big and not very well liked. The city of Long Beach is also pretty much anti-Greek.

Maybe it is time for the Small Greek Community for a get together for Community Projects to show what a United Front Greeks can be!

Well, if the Greeks can work together and figure out that We Stand alone against the rest! The rest cannot be as well organizied if the Greeks Get With It!

It sounds like that GLO is cleaning house. They may, or may not, retain some active members. They will probably be conducting recruitment.

From what I have heard of redevelopment, the chapter goes dormant for a period of time. Sometimes the sisters become alumnae, and then the chapter reopens after some sort of restructuring and recruitment process. From what I have heard and read, usually this happens due to low numbers.

If it is something you are really concerned about, you can ask the sisters of the chapter in question. Each group is different.

Question

Maybe yes, maybe no!?

It might also help if said poster explained a little more without getting Flamed for asking the question or divulging who she is talking about and the school and situation?!

I live in a world of Utopia that we can help each other!

A "redevelopment plan" usually means that all the current members remain active (unless there are a couple who the national identifies as not living up to standards) but the national HQ and volunteer force helps them in a major way with things like recruitment, officer training, budgeting, etc. The national may or may not have more of a hand in who receives or doesn't receive bids.

Of course if there are present members who don't want to participate they are free to go alum - but basically when an NPC wants to "alumna-fy" all or most of the active members it's called a recolonization. They have up to one year afterwards to restore the chapter to an active state without losing their place on the University's Panhellenic.

In other words, from what I've seen, redevelopment doesn't equal recolonization, dormancy or cleaning house, unless the sorority doesn't want to admit what it's doing and thinks "redevelopment" is a prettier word.

Thumbs up

33GIRL, you say it so much nicer than I can!

I am not in a Soroity, not that Fraternities call it a whole lot different! Well, yes we do, you in or your out, work to build or be gone!

I know, Myself and other Alums are trying to bolstier our Chapter, no one wants to see a Chapter lose Afilliation and Campi Status!

Instead of making blanket statements about "cleaning house", feel free to actually PM myself or Stacekat as we are both advisers for AOII at CSULB. It's been on our boards in the AOII forum for some time now. It was presented to panhellenic last spring and has been an ongoing process on reeducation of our chapter. We're just about to initiate some outstanding new members and will in fact be participating in Formal Recruitment this fall. By and large this has been a very good process for the chapter. Feel free to ask chapter members on campus about it as well as they have been a huge part of the redevelopment. We have not been secretive about the process and have been more than happy with the panhellenic support we have received. Many of the sororities even made us posters during the height of our redevelopment campaign earlier this semester

CASIGKAP, I'm not trying to chastise you in anyway, go ask a chapter member and get to know some of our members. They are truly an asset to us.

You can also go to the website www.aoiicsulb.org there is/was a lot of info on it. We will be initiating 14 new members on Saturday. They are OUTSTANDING women that will only add to the sisterhood of the active ladies in the house. We have a tremendous amount of Alumnae support with the largest Alumnae Advisory Committee on campus! The Redevelopment is not over, but we know that in fomal recruitment next fall will are now in the position to promote our chapter at the same level as the other Sororities on campus. The IFC/Panhellenic/GLO support we have recieved has been tremendous! One of your advisers has been an excellent resource for me and I hope she will be around for a while! At any rate, like AOII_LB93 said, if you or anyone in your chapter has any questions feel free to call me/pm me or chat with the women on campus. They are extreemely friendly and would be more than happy to answer questions!
