Anyone ever had dermabrasion or a chemical peel?

Just wondering. My skin isnt bad by any means, and when I tan, you cant even really see the blemishes, but I know they're there. I have a few acne scars, particularly on my temples and a couple by my mouth. I'm just kind of wondering what anyones experience was like and if they thought it was worth it.

I guess I'd need to go see a dermatologist if I am really interested, huh?

I had it done. It can be painful, (the pain stuff they gave me I don't think worked very well.) Plus I had to "hide out" for a while because I had it done mainly to my nose and forehead. I had to wear a bandage over my nose a'la nose job and that part stunk, plus it did hurt, and it's nosy. I think it's a bit mental too, becayse I was awake, and given like a pain killer than then numb eveyrthing but you still hear and see this thing at your face, it's strange. But I am for the most part happy with the results. I explain my dermabrasion as what is used to wax a car, slap sand paper on it, and than take it to your face. I sugguest going to a reputiable derm. and if it's something you really want and are willing to pay for, do it.

I haven't had it done, but am in the process of scheduling laser resurfacing. I had large cysts all over my face back in my junior year of high school, and it has left me with terrible scar tissue. The dermatologist told me a few things:

1) You will not get flawless skin and you will still have scars from the dermabrasion. Don't expect to come out looking like an airbrushed GQ model.

2) You will have to wash your face 8-10 times a day to keep it moist and avoid infection.

3) Your skin can stay red for a year (or more) after the procedure. Make sure you're willing to deal with that before making your decision. It's always easier said than done, so don't say you can handle it if you know deep down you can't.

4) If you've had a recent treatment with Accutane or more than one treatment in the past, your skin becomes less likely to heal properly after any surgical procedure. Definitely something to take into account if you are using/have used Accutane.

Other than those things, it's an okay procedure. The being awake part freaks me out a little, but I'm tired of little kids in the Burger King line pointing and giggling to each other about my face whenever I go out without makeup on .

I have had micro-dermabrasion and I loved it! My skin felt 100% better; much smoother and soft. And I surprisingly I noticed a difference w/ fine lines I didn't even know I had.

The key is start very slow. If you go to a doctor ask what level to be put on. I get mine at a salon and spa and they always do level 5 out of 10. You can of course to go to a higer level, more powerful - but painful.

If you start slow and build up, get about 3 done for 3 months - you notice a wonderful difference. It's quite lovely!

Make sure to talk to your dermatogolist or salon specialist before you schedule an apt. Talk about which level she will be using, some call it levels, some call it something else?? Can't think of the word? But remember, the higher the level - the more red and unfriendly your skin will be.

On level 5 I went home washed my face and put on a dab of makeup and went out. No redness, no pain, just healthier skin!
