Magazine Topics

I'm doing some freelancing for various lifestyle mags, and I'm trying to come up with story ideas for submission... any recommendations? Not having to do with Greek Life; rather, featurish topics. Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, what kind of magazines are we talking? Equus? Field & Stream? Better Homes & Gardens?

It sounds like you have a really cool job, by the way.

To piggyback this question...
How does Cosmo, et all pick their articles for their "life stories" section. I always see stories about women catching their stalkers, or getting kidnapped, dealing with cancer, etc... how do they pick those stories? You think they would accept a story from anyone?

i ask because basically i missed the deadline for Glamour's writing contest because I ran out of time and I was lazy... yeah yeah I know. But I wanted to tell my story about growing up and being an adult with a child onset disease.

adpiucf: Trite as it undoubtedly sounds, the number one peice of advice in 'how to write magazine article' books is "write about what you know".

So adpiucf, what do you know (about) ?

What decadence says is correct. Write what you know and are good at.
