Arrow Mass Transit

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?

2) Does it get you where you need to go?

3) Does it run frequently?

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?

5) Is it clean and safe?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll answer for me in NYC:

1) We have subways and buses.

2) It goes almost everywhere I need to go.

3) During the week, most subways run every 3-5 minutes. Buses are every 10 - 20 minutes.

4) Just about everyone uses mass, and there is no stigma.

5) Not so clean, but very safe. It wasn't safe 20 years ago, but times have changed.

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?

Yes, buses.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?

Everywhere in the metro area.

3) Does it run frequently?

Not frequently enough!

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?

A LOT of students use public transportation. There doesn't really seem to be a stigma.

5) Is it clean and safe?

Very clean - very safe!!

Note: Not altogether convenient - Bus stops are pretty spread out

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?

Yes, buses only

2) Does it get you where you need to go?

No, I haven't taken one yet, However, where I live there hardly bus stops. It sucks!

3) Does it run frequently?

I don't know

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?

I had never been in one of their buses, so I can't tell you about the ridership. Sorry!

5) Is it clean and safe?

I guess it is clean and safe, but that is an assumption on my part.

When I lived in NYC, I took the subway most of the time, sometimes I would take the bus. However, I also took advantage of another mode of transportation - foot. I walked a lot!

I miss New York!

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?
Yes, the metro and buses.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?
For the most part.

3) Does it run frequently?
The metro runs about every 5 minutes during the week and about 10 mins on the weekends. The buses are all different.

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?
Pretty much everyone uses the metro, no stigma there. Less people use the bus system, but I don't think there's really a stigma to using it.

5) Is it clean and safe?
The metro stations and trains are very clean. Buses are clean too. I've taken both means of transportation by myself and have never been scared.

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?
Yes. The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission). They have the Subway, Buses, and Streetcars. They also offer WheelTrans for the physically disabled. It will pick them up at their doorstep and take themwhere ever they need to go. It has no designated route.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?
Yes, it'll will get me almost everywhere.

3) Does it run frequently?
Subways run every 2-3 minutes during rush hour and every 5-6 minutes regular time. Buses will run anywhere between 10-30 minutes depending on route and traffic.
Street cars run about every 5-15 minutes.

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?
I feel that the ridership is composed of every class and there is no stigma attached to it.

5) Is it clean and safe?
It could be cleaner but I find it safe.

1. In Chicago we have CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). It includes buses, and trains (both elevated and underground).

2. CTA goes just about everywhere in the city. In addition there is Metra and the Pace bus that goes to the suburbs.

3. Depending on where you need to go. Most buses and trains run 24/7.

4. Everyone takes CTA. Especially if you work or are going downtown.

5. Not always clean and not always safe. I've ridden it alone in the wee hours but never ridiculously uncomfortable. Each station and train has people there and there are buttons to push if you feel uneasy. I've seen some weird things, especially on the Red Line.

Thumbs down

Russ, good point, when I was in NYC, and A few other major cities across the world it was great! Chicago, SF/Oakland, Washington DC, Budapest, and Vienna.

But, in the West, so to speak it just dont work! Kansas City Metro.

We have the ATA Bus system and to few use it.

I cannot for many reasons:

1. Own business

2. Doesnt go by the bank or store.

3. Doesnt come by the House.

4. Our major roads are 1 mile apart.

Remember people in NYC dont have cars, rental space for cars is high.

Out side the City is cheaper than driving into Manhattan and renting parking spaces! Maybe like a lot of Major Cities?

I drive now, 5 Miles a day to and from store Thank goodness!

Re: Mass Transit

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?

There is a little mini train in Baltimore )I think it's called the metro) that goes to the Northern suburbs and the airport, plus busses. Then in Annapolis, there are busses. I think there is a bus route between Annapolis and Baltimore.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?
When we want to go into Baltimore for an Orioles game or to see a play or concert, we'll drive to one of the metro stations outside of the city then take the train in. So, yeah, it suits our purposes.

3) Does it run frequently?
During the day and evening, I believe

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?
I've never been on a city bus here, but the metro has no stigma. All kinds of folks ride on it; about half commuters and half people who are getting around the city.

5) Is it clean and safe?
Yes

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?

Yes, we have buses. DTS has been researching for years on a monorail-like mass transit system, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?

It runs more frequently in the downtown/metro area, but it also goes to pretty much every part of the island. There are certain "Circle Island" buses that tourists like to use and it goes around the island.

3) Does it run frequently?

Yes. The buses that go from the suburbs come every 10-15 minutes. The buses in the downtown area arrive every 5-10.

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?

Yes. Being that parking pretty much sucks and is expensive in downtown, most people opt to catch the bus from their homes. You'll see businessmen/women in their power suits, elementary school kids and their parents, college students, and the elderly.

All buses are also equipped with bike racks in front and to the rear exteriors of the bus for those traveling very long distances.

5) Is it clean and safe?

Very clean and safe. In fact, TheBus was named America's Best Transit System in 1994-1995 and 2000-2001.

1. Light rail and buses run by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

2. If you can get to the Park-and-Ride or the nearest light rail stop, it'll get you easily to downtown. But if your travel requires a transfer or two, it's a major pain in the ass. Plus, you can connect to the Trinity Railway Express to downtown Fort Worth.

3. Runs frequently, but the light rail routing appears to have been designed by committee.

4. Rail travel is composed of all classes of people, no stigma for those who use it. However, those who rely on commuting to areas that are not served by bus or light rail are screwed; they hafta put up with rush-hour traffic.

5. The equipment and travel is relatively safe.

1) Do you have mass transit where you live, and what type?
Yes, buses.

2) Does it get you where you need to go?
I'm not sure... if you're willing to walk several blocks on both ends, probably. The closest stop to my house is about 6 blocks away.

3) Does it run frequently?
Every 15 minutes during the workday, give or take. I think it's 30 - 45 minutes on "off hours"

4) Is the ridership composed of all classes of people? If not, is there a stigma for people who use it?
It depends on the part of town. Around the colleges it seems to be mostly students. Downtown, there's a lot of professional types. But there always seems to be at least one "less savory" individual.

5) Is it clean and safe?
In reality, it's probably safe, but I don't feel safe riding alone, especially in certain parts of town. As far as clean... eh... it's moderate.

1) Sort of, we have buses.

2) Nope. Routes are very limited.

3) Don't know, I've never ridden it.

4) Primarily, the buses have served lower income and the elderly. However, they just built a new commuter lot on I-35 about 20 minutes out of downtown.

5) I believe they run on natural gas. I haven't heard of any safety issues.

1) Buses, monorail, commuter trains, and a commuter ferry.

2) Pretty much, except the monorail line doesn't go where I need it to go, and sometimes the buses are overcrowded.

3) Trolleys (electric powered buses) usually run every 5-10 minutes; diesel routes usually run every 15-30 minutes; commuter routes (way out to the burbs) run every 30 minutes - 90 minutes (in off-peak hours); not sure about the trains or ferry.

4) Yes, and this is the only city where I've seen all classes of people riding transit. It's refreshing.

5) Mostly clean, mostly safe. There are some monorail stations where I wouldn't be caught in after dark, but they're nowhere near me so I don't have to worry about it.
