Canadians: Lib, PC or NDP-will the scandal make a difference to you

Hey,

Maybe its because I have a major (will soon) in Canadian politics or that i am a geek but: What party are you voting for when or IF the election comes. Does the sponsership scandal make a difference to you?

I may not get any replies to this because its not an exciting topic but oh well!! At least it interests me....

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure who to vote for.

1) I'm not sure if I trust the Liberals under Paul Martin because of this issue

2) The Tories under Steven Harper just scare the heck out of me. I'm normally a fence sitter when it comes to political parties, but his Alliance background is too far right for me.

3) I'll NEVER, EVER, EVER vote NDP.

PC/Tory/whatever-
Harper, don't trust him, and he was far to critical of the PM's stance on international politics... reminds me to much of Mulroney...

Liberals-
Martin (Psi Upsilon-UofT)... don't trust him... i generally don't trust philosphy majors.... but his is a UofT "frat boy"... so i don't know.

NDP-
Layton (Sigma Chi-McGill)... you vote Layton, you get Chow.... while the guy seems nice (he comes around the campus every now and then as it's his wife's riding), i can't ever trust the domestic and foreign policies of his party... they'd make a good oposition though. I think i'll ask him about some issues next time I run into him (his son's on the Greek's dart team).

I used to vote PC, but after the merge they have just lost my vote.

I will never vote liberal.

I will never vote NDP. While I like some of their ideals, but they are impractical.

I'm voting green. A little out of spite, a little because they are an up and coming party and a little because I like them.

I will stick to what I have done always - vote for the best candidate for myself and my riding.

If he/she is going to be representing ME, then I want a person that I feel comfortable with.

Being an Alberta-born-and-bred-PC (they were elected 2 weeks before I was bron - and haven't left office yet!), I am fairly blue PC, but I want to see platform on some issues before I jump that bandwagon... I have more Libreal tendancies, so I'm between both. (I would be what Amicnas call a Reagan Democrat - like the business stuff, but want my social justice too)

oh - and I have yet to vote Reform/Alliance, whatever - it has happened that I voted for Lloyd Axeworthy and Allan Rock when I lived in those ridings in Winnipeg & Etobicoke respectively.

Vote for the lesser of 3 evils...

I usually support PC, but I don't trust them since they merged with the Alliance. Will they still be middle of the road with a slight right wing flavour or are they going to be far right (Canadian style) like the Alliance were?

I will never ever vote NDP. They ruined my provinice - I don't trust them or their ideals. They tooklthe richest province in Canada and turned it into a havenot province. And the NDP is the one party that is the most closely connect between the Federal and provincial level (TheTokenCanuck, I have my degree too in Canadian polisci ).

So what does that leave me with - the Liberals. Scandal schmandal, as long as we are pulling surpluses and the debt is going down, I'm happy.

With all the adversity Canada has faced over the last year (SARS, Mad Cow, Fire, Floor, and now bird flu) our economy has managed not only to stay afloat, but get stroger.

I am a firm believer that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yes there are flaws in our political system and government, but for the most part it's pretty good.

My friends, we have so many more choices.

I am sick of the 3 major parties. While I know if I vote for a smaller party, they may not win, but if people look into tehse parties and more people start voting for them we will eventually have more parties to choose from.

I myself am a Liberal (used to work for John Manley) but I have an opinion on the PC's. You see, everyone is quick to jump on the bandwagon that they will go far right because of their leader Harper. While I feel that a leader does have an influence I think the Alliance members might learn their lessons and with the help of the PC's go a little to the middle-which is what exactly they need to win an election..even though i am Liberal I hate when people say-oh not the far right because of Harper..there is some truth to that but not entirely.

A lot of people i think just vote for a party because they dotn think the voting system is good enough and that they will only vote if their vote "makes a difference." Anways enough rambling on for me!!

Its funny to know that Paul Martin is in a fraternity..and Jack Layton. John Manley went to Carleton (My school!!!) too late to join a frat..the first one on campus to get charter was ACACIA in 1988.

Nah... Mike's a Kappa Sigma here in Toronto.... well alum now... if you've ever been to the Maddy on a monday night you've probibly seen him play'n darts in back with the 'older' crowd.

Interesting. I've heard from people that Mike's not exactly NDP. Anyway, hope exams are going well for you, Rob!
