Pat Tillman killed

Don't know how many of you are familiar with his story, but Tillman was killed in action today while serving in Afghanistan. He played in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and walked away from a lucrative contract offer from the St. Louis Rams to serve his country. He and his brother joined the same unit; no word on what happened to his brother.

There are stories on both cnn.com and espn.com about him and background on his decision.

ETA: I just realized there was a thread about this previously started in the Entertainment forum.

From what I've heard/read, he sounds like he was a really great American.

What a terrible loss. He must have been a good American to have given up a fairly lucrative career to serve his nation and die honorably. Whether or not you agree w/ our involvement, surely he deserves all our thoughts and prayers.

He had a 3 MILLION (or so) contract on the table. He walked away from it all because he believed he was so fortunate. He served as a Ranger.
He is a hero-as are all those fighting this war, past wars and sad to say-our future wars.

He will always be a true hero, great role model, and great American, and not because of what he did on the gridiron.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he who sheds his blood with me this day shall henceforth be my brother...
With admiration and awe in the face of courage, honor, and devotion to duty I offer my poor tribute to a fellow soldier who gave the full measure for our country. Here was a man I would be humbly proud to call my brother. May God bless Pat Tillman, Ranger, Soldier, true Patriot! We are made poorer by his loss but richer by his life and example.
