Which is Worse? 4/15/2004
One of your friends has invited you to a social function. You didn't get all of the details but you know the when and the where. You try to get back in contact with your friend in order to find out the dress code but can't reach them.
Of the following choices Which is Worse?:
A. Being overdressed at a casual party
B. Being underdressed at a formal party
Just make a choice from the options above or watch from the stands.

being underdressed at a formal event. I'd rather be a litter over dressed for anything than underdressed.

I agree with what's already been posted. If u are overdressed u can play it off like u're just that clean all the time.

My answer has been taken. Being underdressed makes u stick out like a sore, big, blurple thumb. LOL! It's far more worse than being overdressed. At least when your overdressed u can always a) take off some things to bring it down, or b) walk around like u that crispy everyday all day

I would want 2 be overdressed at casual event. I think u would stick out 10 times worse if u were underdressed at a formal event then the other way around.

Yeah...I'm going to go with the majority on this one. It's like being overprepared rather than not prepared.

IMO, being underdressed at a formal party is like being naked.
When in doubt, overdress. Folks will just think that you are so fresh and so clean.

Underdressed is best
Okay, so I'm the voice of dissension. I would much rather be underdressed. I despise being overdressed; it makes me self-conscious and uncomfortable. Additionally, I have kind of a formal manner and nice but casual clothes help to temper that perception.
In a situation such as described, I would take a chance by dressing moderately: wearing a nice, long (possibly jean) skirt and black top that can be dressed up or down. I would leave my heels, jewelry, and possibly a nice jacket or dressier top in the car, just in case. For an event that requires more dress than that, I'm sure I would have received a much more formal invitation.

Being underdressed is always worse than being overdressed. If you are overdressed, you may be able to remove a jacket or something of that nature to dress your attire down a bit but there is nothing that you can do about being underdressed.
Besides, I wouldn't mind being overdressed and getting the attention that usually comes along with that.
