Question about Democratic Coverages in the US and Canada

Are they covering any of the elections in:

(1) The 3rd largest democracy (Indonesia) in the world
(2) The comming election for South Africa, marking the 10th anniversary of freedom

I haven't see anything yet, but I am sure the CBC will be on top of that.

(American news: yuck! I make it a point to watch the BBC broadcast on PBS if I'm watching NBC or ABC or what have you.)

I'm sure CBC will cover it, like bcdphie said because they're quite good at that.
Also, if you are fortunate enough to have digital cable sunde subscribe to the BBC Channels (either BBC world or BBC Canada) I'm sure there will be coverage there.

Edit to add: What about CNN? Wouldn't they cover it?

There are a ton of news and media resources in the States. If you choose to read the most basic ones and complain about how all US media doesn't cover what you want, that's on you.

As you can imagine, a huge percentage of the nightly news coverage regards Iraq and the US Election.

With the exception of a mention or story here or there, you would probably have to go to the long form shows, PBS or BBC America for coverage of much of anything else.

CBC Radio this morning, and CBC Newsworld this weekend had something on both .....

Some parts of the US can pick up CBC.

I know when my family lived in Sandusky they got CBC Windsor.
Parts of Michigan pick up CBC too.

I'm in the Detroit area and we get CBC! It's great, especially during the Olympics. You get to see a lot more events, not just the ones that the USA are favored to win.

Gotta love curling, which I would have never even known about if not for CBC. (We get to see a lot of equestrian events also).

Well, like I said, the CBC covered this story last night. Following that they showed a story about humping scottish toads - it was quite funny - did anyone else catch that one??

NPR has been reasonably on top of the S. Africa election.

I do miss living in Detroit and being able to watch and listen to CBC when I wanted to.

Why would the S African elections even matter??? There is no reason to doubt the outcome. Newspapers all over have carried articles on it, including the NYTimes. But they won't do minute by minute coverage on an election that was won before it started.

Update:

Without a doubt that the ANC would win this election. The interesting thing is wether or not the ANC will attain the 2/3 treshold to change the constitution. It is also very interesting to note that many of the whites have now gone over to the ANC. Especially the Afrikaners, with many now grabbing different position within the party.

The NNP is slowly dissapearing. They have done themselve a lot of damage by forming a coalition with the ANC. Because of this, many have abandon the NNP and the votes has gone to VF+ and the Independent Democrats.

In general, South African have a very positive attitude toward the future. Although crime is still a major problem, the crime rate is comming down. HIV/AIDS is another problem which the government of ANC still hasn't taken seriously.

As for the Indonesian election, it is turning out to be a very interesting race. The clear loser of the election is President Megawati's party PDI-P. The winner is GOLKAR. Plus, the Partai Demokrat and PKS have been gaining ground. The two party has been projected to take over the Jakarta municipality.

In order for a party to put forward a presidential candidate, it must attain at least 3% of seats in the legislative poll. The first round of Presidential election will commence in July. Should no candidate win the majority of the vote, the top two will face each other again in September.

So far, the poll shows that Susilo Bambang Yudhono as the favorite for the Presidential office. Megawati come in second with Amien Rais comming in third. Look like there is going to be a new president of Indonesia if the poll hold still.
