Louisiana tries to ban low rider pants

BATON ROUGE, La. -- How low can you go? A Jefferson Parish, La., lawmaker has filed a bill in the Legislature that would ban people from wearing low-slung pants below the waist, thus "exposing skin or intimate clothing."

State Representative Derrick Shepherd got tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the low-slung belt lines of young adults.

His bill would punish anyone caught wearing low-riding pants with a fine of as much as $500 or as many as six months in jail, or both.

Wow!!!!

What is up with this. Do these people not have anything better to do? First it's genital piercings, now low rider jeans! What's next, V-neck sweaters because they have the potential to show too much clevage?!

Britney Spears hails from Louisiana - what she SHE do when she goes home?!

I'm so sick of lawmakers interfering with peoples daily lives like this... seriously, don't they have better things to be doing?

This is a lame thing to mess around w/ in the legislature but I wouldn't be at all sad if it happened.

Yeah, Louisiana is backwards in lots of ways. Though I personally am sick of seeing thongs when I'm walking along my merry little way. It shouldn't be legislated. We have to stop with this legislation of personal behavior, if it isn't HURTING someone else, well it hurts my eyes, but that's a different thing; it shouldn't be legislated.

But on the Flip side, wouldn't we all be happy if we didn't have to see thongs and butt crack in the mall?

Forget about passing it through the legislator, why not just let individual stores, restaurants, bars, etc, ban such items themselves?

It's so stupid to even ban them. They style will go out soon enough. Just leave it alone.

There are more important things to be done, I'm sure.

True. With the 80's look coming back, everyone will be wearing their pants up to their boobs soon.

i for one would miss it.

I myself am a big fan of the ladies low rise jeans. Are there some that shouldn't wear them? Indeed, so i look away. Others can rock the low rise with the top of a thong sticking out and can look deliciously white trash

Nothing like going to class or a nice restaurant to see some chick's ASSCRACK chillin outside her pants.

Crack kills.

AlphaSigOU, what was that song you were quoting in the "Victory Act" thread? This sounds positively commie/facist to me.

While passing a law is a little extreme, the idea behind it is valid. I get so sick of seeing girls thongs. It's a bit trashy and for the high school girls it's just flat out inappropriate.

If it's inapprorirate in schools, then let the school ban them. THere are already tons of public schools in Canada and the US with dress codes.

soiunds like he has no business of his own.
