Online Book Club

Would any of you be interested in joining an Online Book Club? I'm not an avid reader but I'd like to read some of your thoughts and opinions about some books before I go out and buy em.

If you are interested either send me a PM or e-mail me at laidbackfella@hotmail.com

Here is a partial listing of some of the books suggested as titles for discussion.

Some Things I Never Thought I'd Do by Pearl Cleage
Love by Toni Morrison
Casting the First Stone by Kimberla Lawson Roby
Liar's Game by Eric Jerome Dickey
What You Owe Me by Bebe Moore Campbell
Initiated Discussions Book Club
Granddaddy's Dirt by Brian Egeston
Too Much of a Good Thing by Kimberla Lawson Roby
Three Days as the Crow Flies by Danny Simmons
Getting Mother's Body by Suzan Lori-Parks

Have any of you read these and have any ideas to share?

Dickey (Alpha bruh), Roby (DST?), and Cambell are all excellent writers; of course Toni Morrison stands in a category all her own. Cleage is well known as well, although I've not read any of her work.

I read an excert of Egeston's Granddaddy's Dirt, which was interesting as I recall. By the way, Egeston's an Omega.

I'm way behind on my reading. I won't be able to join up with a book club until this summer. For those that want to start sooner here's what I know:

Some Things I Never Thought I'd Do by Pearl Cleage
Love by Toni Morrison

I've read other books by these authors-have heard good things about both of these books and they are on my to do list (eventually).

Liar's Game by Eric Jerome Dickey

Didn't particulary care for this book and IMO this is the weakest of his books. I don't think its the writing-his style is basically the same so I think its the characters. With his other books even if you don't like the characters you still want to keep reading to see what happens to them. With this book I disliked the characters so much I really didn't care (but finished it anyway because hey I spent $$ on the hardcover).

I haven't read any of the other books nor have I heard too much about them.

Since you are shouting out affliations, Campbell and Morrison are ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Getting Mother's Body was a very good book. It took me two days to read it. The style of writing may be a little hard to get used to (have heard some folks says the style is close to Hurston) but I didn't have a problem. Definitely keeps you in suspense wondering what's going to happen next.

O my guuuudness.... I didn't know. Of course I'd never purposely leave out the very definition of fineness, literary and otherwise -- AKA.

let me also give props to Lolita Files, a talented writer and member Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

now, is we good, abaici?

I really ended up enjoying this book. The story unfolded a bit slow in the begining, and I actually had to make myself keep reading at some points...but it turned out to be a very good book.
