Rush Stories. Why I chose SigKap
Hello to all my lovely Sigma Kappa ladies. I have read other threads and I wanted to know why you chose Sigma Kappa. I would like to hear your Rush stories.
I recently rushed in the Fall of 2003. I was worried that because of my age, no sorority would want a junior in her early 20's but I figured that I'd give it a shot. I ended up missing formal rush so I tried to COB a few of the open sororities. I was surprised that within a few hours of contacting them, the ladies of Sigma Kappa invited me to their house to watch TV and have dinner. They were the nicest group of women and I knew within moments that I would love to be one of them. I was also surprised to receive a Bid from them that night. I accepted right away even though I was entitled a few days to think about it. My age never bothered them because they told me I was there for the right reasons. SISTERHOOD!
I have never regretted my decision for an instant. I love Sigma Kappa and will be one for life!!!
I eventually heard from other sororities but by then, my mind was made up. One particular sorority told me that they would LOVE to have me b/c their numbers were low and I would help them out by joining them instead of a sorority that already had met quota. Can you believe that? I'm glad I represent the maroon and lavendar!

Okay, I found it:
I had just moved into my dorm at school, freshman year, and I was seeing Sig Kap letters everywhere. I was starting to wonder if I had been placed on some sort of sorority floor.... I found out later that my school didn't have sorority floors, it just so happened that there were a LOT of them in my building.
I got to know quite a ew of them and they were cool girls, but I still didn't want to rush... I didn't want to go greek!!! I didn't have anything against the idea, it just 'wasn't for me'.. (famous last words)...
I went to dinner with about 8 of the girls (6 actives and 2 pledges) and they were trying to rush me there and then.. and I was like no, no, no, no, no thanks (politely of course).
In any case, I got to be GOOD friends with two of their other pledges and they talked me into going to a C.O.B. event.. bear in mind that the ONLY reason I went was because they were making picture frames for the event and I happen to be a picture frame fiend...
So I get there and, you guessed it, I'm the ONLY C.O.B-er there!!! So it turns into The Amy Show. I had also inadvertanly worn sig kap colors, so of course they thought that was SOOOOOOOOOO cool, lol... Well then they were planning on raiding the FIJI house (all in good fun, the guys had a good time too) and I ended up going with them...
You guessed it..Not even two days later (they had to check my grades), I got a bid. They sought me out, sang to me, and begged (jokingly) for me to accept my bid... I wiped my brow and with a sigh said "I suppose", and of course they were like LOL
I got my bid like a week and a half before initiation.. It was bad-a$$... And now I love all my sisters and coudln't be happier that I joined.....

Oh my gosh! I also COB'd a little over a week before initiation. It was intense but I loved every minute of it. The really cool part of it is that the active sisters told me that while I had the shortest time to learn all that I needed to know about Sigma Kappa, I got a 100% on my test that showed I knew my Sigma K history and my greek letters, etc.
I love Sigma Kappa!

Well I also had seen a lot of Sig Kap letters on my floor when I moved in, so I was like what do all these letters mean? Then I became friends with a lot of the Sig Kap girls on my floor, but I had went home the weekend of formal rush for so I thought I was out of luck and I would just wait until next year, because I did not know about COB, but then one of the girls on my floor told me about COB so I went to all of the events and got to know as many girls as possible, then I got a bid and I was super excited!! I am so happy that I choose Sigma Kappa because these girls are some of the best friends I have ever had!!! I love all of my sisters near and far!!!
Sig Kap love, Jen

I went to the University of Louisville as a freshman & when I went through formal rush there I didn't feel right at any of the 6 sororities. I went to some COB events for both Sigma Kappa & Pi Beta Phi after formal rush was over & I made a few really good friends. (My best friend @ U of L ended up being a Sigma Kappa that I met through COBing.) But I still didn't join any group.
When I transferred back to the University of Kentucky I decided to try again. I was concerned that since I was a sophomore they wouldn't be as interested in me, but I took a chance. I was really torn between Sigma Kappa & Kappa Kappa Gamma the first few days of rush (the other 11 sororities really didn't do it for me), but by Pref I just felt right @ Sigma Kappa. I couldn't really explain it. Since Kappa Kappa Gamma had cut me right before pref & the other sororities I visisted for pref weren't really what I was looking for, I suicided Sigma Kappa when I filled out my card. It was an amazing feeling to get dressed in my white dress & make my way down to UK on Bid Day & know that I had found a home.

ive told this story a couple of times but here it goes again
so like most people i was a naive freshman and thought sororities were sowhoreities....but like a good freshman i went to orientation. there was a session on greek life and since i saw one of my sis' good friends from hs i decided to say hi. i told her "i never thought you would be in a sorority" and she said"yup i am and im proud of it!!" she couldnt tell me which one she was in cuz she was a rho chi and she told me to just try it cuz it wouldnt hurt anyone
formal recruitment came around and i didnt know that you had to go to each party.....i had work that conflicted with some of the parties but for some reason i went to all of sigma kappas parties.
i had no clue what i was doing but i felt so comfortable with the ladies of sigma k. i went to two pref parties and i told the ABC sorority i really liked them, which i did cuz of one girl, but i didnt really connect w/ them....i know it was bad of me to tell them that but i didnt have anything to tell the girl. i wanted to get out of the room cuz there preferences wasnt that good and go to the sigma kappa room.
finally when i went to the sigma kappa room i felt at home. i saw what true sisterhood was all about. the girl and i talked forever and until we were ready to do all the other things. tears were falling down my face cuz of what some of the sisters wrote about each other. i knew when i signed my bid card i wanted to be sigma kappa
when bid day came around i ripped open the envelope and the shield as well as "SIGMA KAPPA cordilly invites you to our sisterhood" jumping up and down and sitting in a circle with my pledge sisters i saw that 2 of 3 rho chis were sks as well as the girl who told me to rush. people now know i bleed lavendar and maroon and would do anything for my sorority. the rest is history
