New Phi Mus?

Brooke,

I am not in a position to tell you what you should and shouldn't do- I am a collegiate member at the moment- but I think that if you just relax and let your inner ladies shine, you'll be fine. Really, all anyone can look for in a new chapter is that interest and passion to join their ranks. Show them exactly how excited you are, and be genuine- you'll go far.

Good luck, and I look forward to calling you a sister!
Morgan

Okay, I visited your chapter site, and I immediately noticed a lot of pink and white...hinting something?

I have never been on an expansion team, but I can tell you that of the four groups you listed, Phi Mu is by far the strongest in your region.

Of course, they will be looking for women that exhibit our values of love, honor, and truth, but they will also be looking for those who can make a successful transition. That means:

1. You will have to give up some control over membership selection. If there is someone in your group who really, really, does not exemplify Phi Mu, she may not be ribboned with the rest of you.

2. You will have to be prepared to rush. If Phi Mu comes to campus, they will give you the tools you need, but you can expect that they will want you to grow rapidly in the first several years.

3. You will have to give up your local traditions, in a way. This may not be so hard, as you appear pretty new, but if you are used to hazing or having overnight events, you can pretty much bet that Phi Mu will put an end to it.

Now, keep in mind that these things I have listed apply to every national group, not just Phi Mu. It does not sound like any of them would be a problem though, if you specifically got together with the intention of going national.

FuziCrayon is a great person to ask about the transition from local to national.

you probably already knew this, but....i was cruising through my copy of the history book and discovered that we used to have an active chapter on your campus. anyway, the kappa omicron chapter was installed nov. 1, 1969. fourteen collegiates and seven alumnae from the delta chi local were initiated. it was the first npc on campus. it closed in june 1998.

are there currently any other npcs on your campus?

We hope you do too!

But actually, the thing I hope for the most is that y'all find a group that really suits you...'cause that's the most important part!

Smile Good Luck!

Good luck on all your visits. I hope you girls find the right home for you. I love Phi Mu just as much as the next person, but I kept my options open when I was looking for a sorority - and that's how I found Phi Mu. Best Wishes!!
Also, I wanted to say how impressed I am at how resourceful you are. You even came onto a site like this to talk to Phi Mu's. It's so great to see such an ambitious group looking into becoming Phi Mu. You have great energy! Keep it up!

Today's the day!

Get excited! (Although I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that!) I hope everything goes smashingly. Just relax and let you shine through! Good luck!
