Angry Teen Vouge (April) - Article on Hazing

Alright ladies,

There is another post on this in the risk management/hazing section, but I thought it should be brought over here. There is an article which talks about hazing (although supposedly badly written) and they mention PHI SIGMA SIGMA. I am assuming it is as a group who is participating in hazing.

I don't know what we can do about it... and naming names is really bad. I want CO to get involved, but I am not sure if they can do anything. Any suggestions? Anyone read it?

well i think that would be some sort of defamation/libel (sp?) I know nothing of legal issues but you should forward the article to C.O. and ask if they can write a letter to the editor or something...
And if one of our chapters is hazing, Supreme council and C.O. should be notified so we can rectify it at once

I'm pretty sure that the article refers to old cases that have most likely been dealt with already.

I have read it and passed it around at our meeting. It says something about "Paige" a recent member of Phi Sigma Sigma recalls how she was made to wear white and not shower/bath and no makeup. It stated something about the chapter wanting her to be pure and focuse all her attention on learning about the sorority. I think that was pretty much it. It didn't go any further than that. I have talked to the Chapter I advise and they are aware that they should not be commenting on the article. I these articles really hurt all greeks in general and not just the ones that they list. You don't see many articles about all of the Philanthropy work that we do! I wish one of those magazines would do a huge article on those types of issues for once instead of focusing on these types of issues!

I bought the magazine yesterday and read the article. I'm sure the author feels she is only protecting young women by sharing this information, yet no where in the article does she or the editor provide information on when, where, and how to deal with hazing if it oocurs.

And they make no mention to watch out for hazing in athletic teams and even dormitories...

in fact the only hazing i've ever seen was done by dorm students. In my rez 1st year all the newbies were hazed by the upper class students....

I think sororities and fraternities are being blamed for something that is much more prevalent in student life as a whole.
