Smile FlyLady

OK- this may sound strange and I promise I'm not affiliated with this site in any way, so I'm not advertising for them, but have any of you heard of Flylady.net? I actually saw it on the Alpha Chi Omega board months ago, so I checked it out and I LOVE IT!

FlyLady has a great system for cleaning your house/apt, organizing finances, planning menus, etc. It's great for women (or men) who work outside the house or for stay at home moms. She sends out email reminders for what zone we're cleaning this week & special missions in each room of the house, etc. It's hard to describe but she's really made a difference in my life & how I view housework (it's not a chore- it's "blessing my family").

Last month she emphasized cleaning out ur closets and "flinging" what we really didn't need (and then donating it to charity). This month she's focusing on ways to reduce debt- just $15 at a time!

Anyway, if any of you are fellow Flybabies, I'd love to know so we can FLY together!

L&L,
WLFEO

Crashing your forum!

I'm a Flybaby, and I love it. Even though I fall off the wagon occasionally, it has made such a difference in my whole life, not just the housekeeping aspects. I'm very grateful that Flylady gives so much of herself and her time to help us out.

Having been in my house for a total of about 4 hours since January, I think I need a cleaning crew (that or a wrecking crew!) before I got myself on that sort of schedule!

But it does sound good in theory!!

I love FlyLady!! I have vowed to start following her systems and get my house/life organized. I'm super organized at work with clients, but at home, it's a whole different story.

Sweetie, I'm exactly the same way. I was super organized at work, everything had a place. At home, let's just say everything has a place and it's place is all over my floor. LOL.

Ok ladies.... I just joined FLY lady.
I think it will help me! I've been getting very bogged down with absolutely nothing recently... constantly feeling blah and accomplishing very little.
Thanks for sharing the web site.

I am going to check it out right now. It sounds like something I need. And who better to do it with, than the love and support of my sisters. Flybabies here I come!

alright, so i read it. It makes sense. But if you only clean one zone a week, at what point will the whole house be cleaned. I don't know about you, but I have a man that can't put crap away for anything. If I clean the living room one week and don't return to it for 3 weeks, I'll be worse off than I am now. Thoughts?

That's my problem too. I adore my husband but I feel like I'm always having to go behind him and pick up. I guess it's good training for when I have children ...

I shined my kitchen sink today. And made my bed in the morning.
Small baby steps.

Sherra- I think the point is that once you get the zone cleaned up in the first place, by doing little bits at a time, then it is easier to keep it clean in the future. And by starting routines, you can train both yourself and your families (i.e. husbands) to stay more organized.
At least that's how I understand it so far.

I must admit my husband eyed me a little funny when I put the dish strainer under the sink. He litterally asked me if I was ok. We don't have a dish washer and I usually let my dishes pile up. Not today. They are all washed, dried and put away. And my sink is shiny. End of day 1. Good night.

Yeah, adpi*nurse! Do you like your shiny sink? What helps me the most is keeping my shoes on all day. At first I couldn't stand it, but now I can't function without them.

skerbow, you can still declutter & pick up in your house (in babysteps) but the zone work is more detailed cleaning- like baseboards, detail dusting, etc. For instance- zone 2: the kitchen- that week you work on straightening a drawer or cabinet, wiping off fan/vent-a-hood filters, clean under sink/throw away old rags. That's more detailed than just picking up the junk that collects on the counters.

I am totally not clean & organized by nature, but seriously when I make an effort to be, my husband follows along also.

One of the best parts for me has been the help with menu planning- it's saved me money by having something planned & not eating out nearly as much, and it's saved me lots of headaches trying to plan a meal at 5:30pm and realizing I have nothing thawed.

Okay, I started to read the website. I suppose FlyLady makes some sort of sense...

But I'm not cancelling my Molly Maids just yet!

Yeah, that happens- especially at first when she sends the welcome letters. But now I just look at the titles of the email & delete them especially the ones that say "Reminder" like to do laundry, clean car boogie, hot spot fire prevention, etc. Even if I don't have time to do it right then, it gets it in my mind at least. But I know what you mean- it can be overwelming at first! Hang in there, flybaby! Maybe you could adapt some of her stuff for your job as property manager????
